    Howdy all,

Just bought an '05 tacoma access cab, trd. It's been lifted and has some (ugly to me) non-toyota wheels on it at present. Wondering about putting some newer tacoma/4-runner wheels on the thing to try to get it back to slightly more basic. The current wheels have the chrome lugs around the perimeter which just isn't my style, and doesn't seem to be for most of y'all either.

I am a carpenter and though I have a work truck through my company (a frontier... sigh), I want to have this thing set up to go should I find myself changing jobs, so having big, heavy treat fat tires on it doesn't really make sense to me. I won't bother dropping the thing, because that's silly, but I wonder how some newer stock TRD or just standard Toyota wheels would do with the truck. Would I need to get proper 2005 wheels for the ABS to work properly?

Additionally, this is probably a question for another thread and I'll address it there but there is a little more rust going on than I'd really like. Frame looks good, top of body looks good, but underneath has a few spots that I'm feeling inclined to address. I found out the truck came from New York, so I'm not surprised. Any advice? Wirebrush on a grinder and some rustoleum?

Please disregard rust question! Just realized I'd asked a little while back and got some answers!

Also, searched a little harder and believe I found an answer about the newer wheels fitting, but I am still curious about whether or not they will still work with the sensors. Seems like no...

You'll need sensors for your particular Tacoma

I put those same wheels on my ‘14 OR with no issues at all. Used the sensors out of my factory alloy wheels.

I went the other way. Tacoma wheels on a 4Runner. Btw, I know it's not a Tacoma but apparently I like hanging out here more.

Slapped a set of T4R wheels and tires on this weekend. Will do for now but I'll change tires before winter. These tires are in great shape with very low miles but I prefer AT tires.

I also left my 1/4" spacers on and they seem to be decent. Anyone running any other spacers ok? Maybe 1" or 1.25"?

Changed tires last month. Cooper Road and Trail 265/70R17. Swapped tires and rims with wife's 2019 4Runner SR5 Premium just after we bought it. Discount Tires set up the TPMS sensors no problem. Wore out the original Dunlops so went with the Coopers. She got new Coopers as well. I have driven in snow but not deep stuff yet. Like them so far.
