Well shit Chuck, that wasn't the news I thought you would get. I don't get why a knee replacement wouldn't solve the hyper extention. Can they still fix the ligaments at least?

what about the knee replacements they do in pro athletes? those things are built much heavier than regular knees and most folks are able to keep up their career.

dammit dude. I hate hearing this. I push my body too hard some times and I fear this will be me soon. While I hate knowing friends are going through this, it serves as a warning to others when you share. And for that, I thank you.

Working overhead is for the birds.

3 pendant lights removed for painting. And because they were hideous. Replaced completely and fitted with task shades to focus on the counter.
Next up, LR ceiling fan. Fuk

also did the MBA vanity lights this morning. Mirrors are placed, not hung yet.

Trying to paint the appropriate picture of VA health care philosophy, they are not well known for going above and beyond. I was actually one of three vets who wrote letters about an ortho guy in Detroit who was removed from the staff for doing just below the bare minimum requirements of his job. He was flipping patients through his Saturday morning clinic in 10 minutes or less without doing a real exam. (Basketball had me very familiar with ankle injuries and exams.) It's unfortunate that the VA can't pay a little better and get less of the recent medical grads who are paying off their student loans.

I found out from a private practice ortho doc that with 4-6 months of basic physical therapy, I could have stayed in. Or re-enlisted on 9/11. (I called and tried.) But it costs less to give a medical discharge and send you home. And then they tried to take my G.I. Bill.

I'll stop here, as I'm not a huge fan of the VA.

    Looks edible from here!

Home made beef stew and baking soda buscuits, followed with the annual home made German chocolate cake. I think my wife likes me.

Oh no! So sorry to hear this Chuck. Hopefully the treatment helps until they can figure out a better alternative. I don't see why they couldn't make an artificial knee that couldn't hyper extend.

Dammit Chuck, I’m sorry that your knee is that damaged. Hopefully the PT, injections, and new brace will help.

...^^^... I have been in the VA system for a long time and know the system very well.

The VA is a weird animal ... it is the luck of the draw on which doc you get and which medical center your local VAMC is associated with (where you live).

I can get a Top Emory Medical Center doc who works part-time at VA who will do more for me than an Emory doc at the Emory Medical Center ... because the VA does not worry about a budget or billing (disabled veterans).

I have had some super primary care docs (VA employees) at the VA ... but now I have a real dud ... some specialists at the VA are a little harder (or impossible) to get.

IMHO ... This Covid BS has made many people at the VA very lazy because they had a very light patient loads in the VA clinics and tests. Now the vA patient load has picked up at the clinics and they can't deal with it.

Sooo, if you are in a good location and get a good VA doc (VA employee) or a good local medical center doc who practices at the VA part-time ... you are in luck.

I am very fortunate that I have the VA (some good and some bad docs) and also Medicare with a MediGap BCBS policy and I can get very good medical care, but I have to push for it too.

Moral of the story at the VA ... it's a crap shoot on where you live and which doc you get ...

Oh ... the VA has some things that the private medical center docs love ... and many of them work at the VA part time for this, it' the VA's .... RETIREMENT PROGRAM & BENNIES.
