We had knock off Cheerios from the dollar store.

Had to eat them with a fork.

That way the milk could be recycled down the line of my 5 half brothers and sisters .

We had powdered milk!

 

Same pretty much but once n a great while we could get some.

 

And gov'ment cheese.

That was some harsh cheese.

I wonder how processed it was. I can still taste it in my mind 40 years later.

 

The block cheese melted good though

 

The good thing about that was even the parents couldn't stomach it

 

I dont think theres anything good about that

 

I remember my grandma got some of that government cheese. Damn what a block .

No. I do currently have a couple of boxes on the long term food storage shelf

I watched a show on tv years ago about older people in the Appalachian mountains from way back. One lady said “we didn’t know we was poor until the government came by and told us we was poor”.
