Before moving north, last summer I constructed a few crawfish serving tables for a local dseafood restaurant in Louisiana. Ended up getting stainless tops made at a local metal working shop.

Most of all though. LOVE milling up my own lumber with the Stihl 661 with 36” bar. Just a few photos of some Louisiana Live oak lumber that I salvaged. Ended up getting some awesome crotch figure out of a couple of logs.

    Absolutely beautiful table.

After seeing all you guys doing your own milling, makes me think I may need to step up my game....

lol. I keep thinking I'd love to do that as well, but I live in suburbia so probably not going to happen. I do have this awesome +/-50 year old maple in the backyard. Provides great shade in our blistering summers. Since I started woodworking I can't stop thinking about having it milled if it ever died. It is pretty massive and has 3 large trunks diverging from the main one about 7 feet from the base. I'd bet that has some cool shapes in there.

This is the only pic I can find at the moment. It's when I was looking at the house before I bought it. The trunk is at least 4 feet across and the tree is over 50ft tall. Hard to see the scale of it from this pic.

Always difficult to capture on pics what you are seeing. Table looks awesome from pics i can imagine colors are much more vivid in person

Absolutely. One of the most satisfying parts for me in woodworking is the first application of stain or wipe on poly. Watching the grain pop.

hoping to get some better pictures next time I visit her.

I have 4 probe thermometers stuck through at different spots to keep an eye on the temperature. Just kept the heat guns on low and waited for the temps to even out and just checked on it regularly. I don’t have a moisture meter, and my main purpose was just to kill the bugs in the wood. I did seal the ends of the boards with latex paint to try to help with checking and cracking as they dried out.

After 2 years of slowly working at my first carving here the result,It started out as a chainsaw carving. As I saw the grains in this cherry log I decided to finish it off smooth.I want to get some slate for the base but the maple will have to do until then. There was some deformation on the underside that I filled with black epoxy.Pretty happy with how it turned out.

Good to see other talented wood workers around here. Working in IT for many LONG years, working with my hands is one of the only “releases” I have since the thing that happened in 2020.
