There’s posts all over the forum about this. What have you done today, this one and even in the marketplace. Near as I can tell, this issue is from this newest batch of lights.
Meso hasn’t posted anything here since the 18th, but in one of the threads someone posted the reply they got to a ticket they opened on mesos site about it, so he is now aware of the issue.

I hope there’s a DIY fix that I’m capable of, because this would drive me crazy and mine are supposed to come in Wednesday edit: Apparently the behavior is known and being deemed a trade off for the issues from the last generation of dual maps. Whatever the double click issue was

Put mine in tonight and they always default to white. Was bummed thinking this was the expected normal.

Thank you for the info. I also sent and email out to Meso, looking forward to seeing what they say.

I just received a response from MESO, here is what they said. "We changed the onboard relay to a processor because it sometimes required a double press to change (which wasn’t reliable). The trade off for that is the lights will resort back to white. So now it’ll stay on white but will work better and more reliable in the truck."

Personally, I prefer being able to set it on red and have it remain there. My footwell lights are red, as well, and it's nice not to get blinded by white light when I open the doors, etc. I prefer the red and only use the white when I really need the extra light. I guess it's the old Army "light discipline" thing. :D

Ugh, I just came to the forum after installing my lights. Mine default to white - this is horrible! it completely defeats the purpose of having red to begin with. There isn't any way to turn them on without destroying your night-adapted eyes. If there absolutely needs to be a default, it should be red.

I've sent them a message we'll see what they have to say. My guess is they didn't think through this change very well.

I feel the same way but I doubt there is going to be an easy fix without swapping the lights out.

I appreciate those of you in this thread, I almost purchased a set of the map and dome lights today. I will be holding off until the default is whichever is last turned on instead of always white.

Guess I must have gotten the old version, they stay red. Haven't had any reliability issues yet.

Oh man. Totally agree with that! I'm so lucky since I bought mine just a couple-a-few weeks ago from someone here. They were BNIB. I honestly would be pissed if they reverted to white. I too, have the footwells and dome in red and I swear by it.

I didn't realize this affects the newest run that was just released. That's a real bummer.

For General Information: The "double click" issue is that it takes two presses of the button to change the color to red from white 9/10 times. I picked up a set a few months ago and this is how they behave.

Can we not just swap/resolder the wires to the lights? wouldnt that set the red as the default?

So, with that, do they revert to white?

After the two clicks to change the color, they remain that color until you choose to change them with another click.

Two clicks? BFD! Doesn't sound like much of a problem as long as red sticks when selected.

Agreed, I definitely prefer this old "problem" to this new "feature"

Well crap. I just installed the first one and found this "feature" thinking it was a install error. Sure wish this was clearly detailed on the listing.

I’m hoping for most people’s sake it’s something as easy swapping and soldering two wires. Only time will tell though. I also hope everyone is able to keep a cool head through this and be patient, unlike the guy losing his marbles in the 3rd gen marketplace threado_O

Agreed. Hopefully there's a simple fix. Got these for nights out doing astrophotography. Will have to be returned if these isn't a solution.

I ordered a set of the most recently restocked batch and I am disappointed about the change. I installed the map lights and found it odd that the settings were not stored, so I came here to check if it was a feature or a defective product. I assumed the settings would be stored like the prior batches, I had previously ordered a dual color dome light and really appreciated that feature. The whole point of me having red lighting is to preserve a little of my night vision while using the map light, this current batch runs counter to that. I like MESO's products, but that change makes these pointless for me and I wish it would have been noted in the product description.

I really like my dome light from MESO, but I might have to request a return on the map lights.
