Not enough for a rant -- just a low level whine for some shared commiseration among men who might have similar experiences.


I only spoke of work at home when something notable happened, something out of the ordinary enough to be passably interesting to someone not there. These occasions were both brief and infrequent.

My wife -- well, not so discriminating we might say, I know every nuance of her job... I get to hear daily the details of her daily.

Runs in the fam, so the worry is always present.

 

My Mother was a great believer in "use it or lose it", she worked in a tax office full time+ each tax season until she was 86.
Her reasoning: Winter is boring, going to school & doing taxes makes one think.
She read the business news, followed the stock market & the hijinks down in Washington daily
She was sharper and more informed when she passed at 91 than many folks decades or even lifetimes younger.

Back to work this fine day.

I see they put me on a job for today with no notice last week. Sometimes it's nice to be a part of the crew and the preparations ahead of time. They are taking out a pump and rebuilding it, and this pump is in a nasty area. A little bit of hot work environment but mostly dose rates and contamination. For non nuke folks that means we pick up some radiation and the contamination part think of going into a room where everything is fresh painted with invisible paint and still wet. Just means we gotta work quickly and carefully. It shouldn't be too dirty until we get to the pump rebuild portion and we'll have it removed and put in a different room w/out dose. It will still emit but not like being in that room.
Fun stuff.

 

Yes sometimes I get to hear about things that my wife deals with. Not terribly bad, sometimes the goings on with a friend and coworker but now that she's divorced and that's over with not so much now. Her friend had to leave a guy that just couldn't get cleaned up of drug use, lost his six figure job etc. It really was unfortunate but she's a great person and doing better.

 

Morning all , ready for morning relief to be in the homestead doing bee work and tractor work all day, better outside

 

I'm back in the HVAC trade tomorrow. Gonna see how I hold up. Service 2 units and swap out a leaking coil. Start out easy and see if I can handle it .
