Any woodworkers?

Had a neighbor I watched for 15+ years hand carve about a 6' tall bear out of a massive chunk of some kind of chunk of tree. He wasn't a woodworker; just an old fashioned kind of guy that kept himself busy with projects 24/7. He passed away not too long ago, and my heart broke when I learned the family sold it for nothing or trashed it weeks afterwards at a garage sale, with no regard to how special of a piece it truly was. I have no place for it, but I would've bought it had I been home at the time. Fella put probably 1/4 of his life's time into it; I'm no sentimental man by any means, but that one made me sick.

 

I sign every one of my pieces now, someone may see that it was made with care by somebody. These pieces I hope are still around long after I am gone.

 

Ok, after dealing with my first world problems of a hot garage I'm doing a little upgrade. Should have this 3 ton Mitsubishi mini split installed in the next few weeks!

 

Nice. I spray foamed and installed a mini split in my shop. You’ll love it.

Man it's a dream for me to have space like that. But I actually have a pretty nice basement shop so I feel blessed too. But man @bomb_city_taco that's a great space!

 

Thanks, when the wife and I were looking for our new house, it was the "shop" in the back yard that sold us. Its a metal pole barn so i added some false studded walls, spray foamed, then added the mini split. been a 4 year project and its still (and will always be) an ongoing project. Plus, its never big enough

 

Thats quite the shop, puts my 750 sq ft garage to shame!

 

well mine is only 560 (20x28). but i think i have the flow right. going to swithc the wood storage and hand tools. its always a work in progress in a shop.

 

Yeah my flow is not great, and it seems smaller because I still cram 2 cars in there.

 

thankfully, the only cars in my wood shop are when i need to do some major work on the vehicles... now that i have a taco incoming (sometime in the future, damn shipping times), it may share space more often....

 

I dont know if I posted this here or not but here's a little video of my shop. It's the first time I used my gopro so it's not very professional as i was just learning the camera. I also learned that gopro's dont like led lights, gets black lines rolling through the video. But you'll see my little basement shop.

Looks like you really maximized your space down there.

 

i honestly don’t remember. I just winged it. Checked on them every so often and stopped when it seemed right. I don’t even have a moisture meter. The main purpose was just to kill any bugs.

@4x4spiegel i sub’d it out. Looking up how much to rent the equipment and get the stuff. It was only a couple hundred more to have some professionals do the work. I’m all about DYI but sometimes, it’s better to let the pros handle it. Same with the mini split. The install was only 300 on top of the cost of the mini split and HVAC is one of 3 things I don’t touch. (HVAC, garage door springs and plumbing).
