That was actually a "factory" option. Ali, the Alta Rack founder, had a lot of clever things built into that rack.

Re-attached my 1UP for the biking season here in UT.

The ball bearing on my 1UP won't protrude from the hitch bar anymore to secure the rack to the truck.
The stock security bolt is screwed all the way in to the stop but the rack flops around because the ball bearing doesn't jam itself to the inside of the hitch rack.
First time this has happened in a few years of removal/replacement.

Pulling out the bolt and pushing a hex wrench down the slot against the plunger (?) pushes the ball bearing out as normal. Hex wrench goes deeper than the bolt is able to due to a flange inside that stops the bolt head at a certain point.
The hitch rack looks normal, ball bearing looks normal, bolt looks normal, just not seeing what's going on inside the 1UP hitch bar below the bolt.

Is there possibly a short plunger section in front of the bolt that mistakenly fell out that's part of the system?
    Any ideas?

edit - contacted 1up by email. phone lines are busy.
edit2 - 1up CS said there should be a 'bullet' spacer in front of the bolt. Off to check rack.
edit3 - bullet was broken at the tip, replacement part ordered.
    https://www.1up-usa.com/product/bullet/

The presence of support and 'reasonably' priced replacement parts for every bit of the 1UP rack system continues to amaze me. Stellar product.

    edit4 - pics for posterity

Been so busy lately that I haven't been able to ride since January but I dusted off the Superfly and took it out the other day. Always forget how nice this bike is to ride.

    Thanks homie.
This is actually our second house. Our first was built in 1975, and had a flat roof… So, yeah, familiar with home improvement bullshit. The sheer amount of random tools you stack is stupid.
Luckily we bought my wife’s childhood home from her parents. So we know the full history and they can help me figure shit out.
One day this summer I’ll invite y’all over for a TW bike and bbq.
BTW: there’s a short rogue trail right behind my house. It actually looks super fun. If you want to pick up some tools and help me figure it out, I have plenty of shovels, rakes, and spades.

Due to attempted theft and also running the rack into various objects, like boulders, I've had to replace various parts of my 1ups. The modularity makes it easy!

Car pulled too close to me at a gas-station.
Somehow got their bumper hooked to one of the 1up outriggers as I drove out and ripped it backwards.
As y'all know this doesn't bend that way so a replacement plate was ordered and installed. Easy peasy fixup.

hmmmm... same specs as my Small Calling. I may have to check my purse to see if my credit limit is high enough.

Not a bike, but definitely a sweet way to haul some bikes. Built this custom mountain bike enclosed trailer for a client a while back. Has the ability to carry 14 bikes on 2 velocirax, as well as a full workbench with an integrated toolbox, and tons of storage for a bunch of gear.
