We are honest with our kids, we try not to influence how they feel toward other people. Both sides of our family did that to us growing up and we try to avoid it.

This doesn't surprise me one bit. Told my coworker in the shop about getting our roof replaced. He said he still has the one on his house since the day he moved in.....30 years ago

He said it's so bad his insurance dropped him a few years ago and he had trouble finding another one to cover him, he said he had them write a policy without roof insurance, mainly fire

We are hard on our kids, hopefully one day they thank us for that. It's nice going to a birthday party and seeing how good they actually are, they are respectful too. Something my parents didn't teach me.

So dumb. Especially when it looked like they had plenty of room on the left side.

Don't really want to like that one.

From my view (600 miles away) you & wife are doing a great job, setting good examples, teaching the right things and also the priority you put on family time.

Some folks just aren't happy unless there is constant strife and sometimes we end up related to those folks... Don't let them spoil your day, just stay the course. Respect my friend.

There is a difference in being hard on kids and being firm, fair and honest.

I think you folks are more in the firm, fair and honest camp -- yes they will thank you someday.

As a volunteer firefighter I've seen my share of things in the last 20 years. Yes we've had a few incidents but nothing too serious.

I don't know if the department in the video is paid or not but from my experience, there is 1 paid and 13 volunteer departments that cover 990 square miles in my county.

These guys and gals are just normal people, very few of which have CDLs or official driver training. These people are regular people from grave diggers to dispatchers to everything in between. What makes them different is that they drop everything to go help people whether it's a fire or car accident or a medical emergency and they do this 24/7/365 all without pay.

The general public is no help as they rarely yield to the fire trucks and ambulances, often ignoring us or stopping dead in the middle of the road. Most of the time they can't be inconvenienced for a few moments to allow up to pass safely.

I'm not defending the fire truck in the video as I was not there and do not know the whole story but I do know not everything is as it seems.

Just some food for thought for y'all.

I agree with everything you just said and have experienced it first hand. They use to let me drive a Peterbilt with tandems and 3,000 gallons of water and I've never had a CDL. We also had a grave digger in the dept. :D

We had a few small incidents, the biggest one our fairly new brush truck was going on a mutual aid call and the driver went through a red light and got t-boned, flipped the truck, totaled it, stuff was thrown for 100 yards. There was one person in the truck.....the chief
It can happen to anybody, anytime. Stay safe and thanks to all first responders!!!!

Little bit of this and that
Too true, I managed to fall into my career (Electrical Distribution specifically Rockwell Automation) by having a willingness to roll my sleeves up and get dirty. Whether that means helping the guys in the back pull orders and load trucks or head out into the field to make deliveries or diagnose why a location is down I've done it. So far it's paid off well as I've been able to enjoy time off with my family and work a pretty easy schedule 95% of the time (7-4ish in an air conditioned office and the freedom to work from home if I need to). The fact that I managed to do it without $100k+ in student loans is pretty awesome.

I took every bolt out of this tractor several years ago and redid everything. Primed it before painting it with intentions of finishing it with a fresh red. I had to sell it to buy another tractor, yada yada. Some guy 3 hours away in the eastern part of the state bought it a few years ago.

I got a farm magazine that sells farm equipment parts in the mail today and I notice the tractor on the front

GPS battery charged. Without breaking out the carbon fiber external antenna, I was only able to connect to 3 satellites, all at different times.

They were all GLONASS (Russian) satellites.
