Solder it. Easy peasy. When I put on my C4 bumper I cut the back up cam off and ran it out to the swing out tire mount. Soldered it and have never had an issue. That was almost two years ago. Just use some shrinkwrap and electrical tape, you should be good to go.

Oddly enough, it doesn't sound too insane to me, because it is not just the wiring harness, but the labor to replace it. It is not exactly "hanging down" where you just unplug the old ends and plug in the new harness. However, that being said, I had something similar happen with my old 1996 Tacoma, in that some lowlife unscrewed my right rear taillight assembly and took it. However, instead of being nice and just unplugging the wiring harness, they cut it! I had a similar response from the dealer, regarding getting a new wiring harness. So, I just went to my local hardware store, and bought some "butt ends", which are basically wiring connectors where you simply insert the wire into each end and crimp it. Much better than the old twist on wire connectors. But since they had taken the actual plug, what I did was to also buy some wire plugs that fit onto the new light assembly, and some short sections of appropriate electrical wire, then attached the butt ends and connected them to the connectors I got for the actual back of the light. Plugged everything in and it was all working when i sold the truck in 2019. Probably the hardest part was actually figuring out which wire went to the taillight, brake light, turn signal and reverse lights! I had to get my neighbor to come over and hit the turn signals, brake lights, and reverse lights, etc, to make sure I had the wires plugged correctly. So that actually took more time than anything else. But the whole thing cost me less than $10, with all the connectors and short pieces of wire, along with about $75 for a replacement taillight assembly. In your case, you just need the connectors. Easy fix for less than a couple of dollars.

Didn't read all the replies but any reputable shop will fix those wires for cheap. No problem. No need for a new harness.

Good advice, I also use marine grade wire and heatshrink. As you said the marine grade heat shrink has glue inside of it.

Whatever you do, IMO do not buy wire from the chain auto parts store. I did that once and the insulation is so soft it wore through very fast.

Another tip is that if you ever use electrical tape on your vehicle, get the pro grade that comes in a plastic container. Once on your literally cannot peel it off. With the cheap stuff, you are lucky if it holds at all, never mind 10 years in a hot, dirty and oily environment.

    Quality definitely matters with electrical.

    Just some stuff...
If worse comes to worse can't he just buy another locking tailgate handle with a camera in it and wire that up himself?

Comprehensive still shows a hit on your insurance. Nothing super bad but stilll something. I was hit by a car on my bike. She had insurance but because of court and delays and waiting for her insurance to pay out after all my rehab, my insurance covered all bills. They said its part of the comprehensive stuff. Fast forward a few years later when I added a 3rd car to my insurance, it showed the crash. Insurance said yes you payed nothing and the other ladys insurance paid all bills at the end of the day but it still shows up that a clam was put in. So ya he can use the comprehensive, but at the end of the day depending on the company, it can hit him in a negative way for something that can be done at a shop. The insurance didn't raise my rates it just shows. I later switch company's and it popped up again. after explaining what happen they didn't do anything to me also. All I'm saying is insurance company's suck and its not always a best thing to just run to it first. Its like windshield repairs. ya you have it on there but again people are willing to take a hit just to fix a chip instead of paying the $60 because the place is tell you its free.

Just looked at my 2022 and the camera wiring has a connection at the junction point of the main harness.

If you’re not willing too or don’t have the ability to do any type of electrical wire repair work I’ve always found the best places to bring stuff is audio and radio installation shops. They’ve done a decent amount of wiring for me that nothing to do with radios like switches and lights. Always great quality and better prices.

Next post. Had audio shop fix my harness, 3 months later fuses blow and nothing works. Shit I should have had the insurance replace the harness but now they won’t pay cause the repair was half assed. :annoyed::annoyed::annoyed:

He can just disconnect the battery and chew the loom and then file the claim at that point. I’m no ethicist, but I could sleep at night with that. The Right To Repair is real, OP. Learning to fix it yourself (perhaps with a buddy who has experience) might be super satisfying….

if you could peel back the housing at the T where a red wire is visible and expose exactly what wires are cut. if just a red/black/white then simple fix.
also the housing in the upper right i assume it is going to the tail gate?
