Looking for recommendations on a suspension kit under my budget of $1,800 for the front and rear suspension for my 17 trd sport.

Looking for a nicer ride than stock components for daily driving and off road capabilities. I hit forest/ logging roads while weekend warrior camping but might feel frisky to do more if I had the right tools but still keeping in mind this is my daily driver. Truck currently is stock with 2” inch front spacer and 1” rear block…sits pretty damn near level now at 37” all around from ground up to the middle of the flares. Tires are BFG KO2 265/65/17

    UCA’s recently replaced under warranty.

Wanting a kit of either front coil overs & rear struts with either new leaf pack or aftermarket UCA’s…I don’t think I can budget all 4 components. Just looking for recommendations on set ups, websites to contact/call or vendors or peeps to talk to on here. TIA !!

Measuring from wheel center vertically to wheel well opening takes the tire size out of the thinking process

Tacomas dont have struts, regardless what any catalog says.

Just some tips to help your understanding of the truck and the process of your project......

As @71tattooguy says, you can't go wrong with the kits he listed.

I just installed Eibach Pro-Truck Stage 2 with 1 inch blocks and stock leafs in the rear. In the 3 weeks I have had it in, I have found that it is quite the improvement in ride quality. I put the kit in as supplied. And have no plans on increasing the lift.

I ended up with 1.8" in the front and oddly 1.7" inches in the rear even though i only added the 1 inch block. I guess the gas charged shocks help give it a bit more of a bump.

My advice is that you don’t need any truck modifications for forest roads and warrior camping. Go out and use your truck and discover it’s strengths and weaknesses and go from there. Unless it’s falling you in some way, leave it alone.

If you measure from the bottom of the wheel to the top of the wheel arch, then measure the wheel face, divide that by 2 then subtract the result from you first measurement you take the guess work out of whether you are at the centre of the wheel or not.

That’s great advise actually and also something I waver on. I fight with the thought though that the ride could be softer on daily driving as I think it’s a little stiff on sport and below trim levels. A lot of members seem to enjoy the ride the stock off-road suspension offers . I just wanna feel that way about the daily ride also.

I call bullshit on suspension modifications making a significant difference during daily driving. It reminds me of wine tasting where people swear that an expensive wine is better but then choose the cheap wine in blind taste test.

You have to take your truck beyond its design limits before you can really appreciate modifications

OP remember ride quality is very subjective. :hattip:

I call bullshit on your bullshit call :poking:

After I changed out the stock Sport suspension to the Pro-Truck, I found the ride in my daily driving to be much nicer. The first hit is still firm but the rebound and recovery is way better. Before I likened it to having steel bars in place of the shocks! It was jarring and jittery over rough roads. Now I feel the first bump and then it is smooth... after 4 ½ years with the Sport suspension I, can say that you can make it better with a shock change.

It’s a common theme on the forum that the poster’s local has worse potholes than the rest of the world. Lol

I can not claim that we have the worst, I only how these streets... lots of other places may be worse. I do know that it is bad this year though... it was a rough freeze and thaw cycle... tearing up huge holes in the asphalt.

I do think that us northern’s have a greater pothole challenge (especially this time of year), but we also more than likely do a better job of taking care of it. A minor snow storm wiped out Texas’s power grid or something like that.

Stock, OEM, what you already have is what you need. Not likely the fancy answer you want to hear, but it’s the truth.

If you really want better ride than your TRD Sport shocks find some lightly used pull off TRD Off Road shocks (or even SR5 stockers) as the Sports are a hair stiffer than the Off Roads. That’s about it. Enjoy the fire roads.

EDIT: could also get some 16” wheels and a +1 larger tire size. Little more rubber and little less air and you’ll have a great ride on those dirt roads.
