My dad is in the market for a 2021/22 DCLB Tacoma and has not been able to find any in stock. He ended up ordering one through a local dealer, which will hopefully arrive in May. Due to high demand the dealer isn't willing to negotiate on price and is not going to budge on some of their "options." They are charging $300 for the "black out kit" which consists only of black emblems and a black muffler tip (not even bumpers or the grille) and $600 for chrome running boards (obviously the appearance of these two conflict)...

What really got me is they are requiring him to purchase two warranty options as well. One is a ~$700 5 year interior warranty, the other is a $300 "theft warranty" which basically pays out $2500 cash in the event your truck is stolen... (vehicle theft rate in his country is 1.5:1000).

Is anybody else getting bent over like this???

Walk away, that is straight up douchebaggery. If this is how they operate, you don’t want anything to do with them.

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
Only if the customer allows it and doesn't walk.
    Unfortunately it's a seller's market.

I did a hasty search and found this dealer that is relatively close to Flagstaff and has a 2022 SR5 4x4 LB that is due in in a few days if the internet is to be believed. Don’t know what your out the door pricing was, but this one is supposed to be $38k.

The sad part is that someone will probably buy the truck you saw with the chrome and blackout extravaganza. It really is a seller’s market.

Nope. Not getting bent over like this because I’m buying out of state. The dealers in the Phoenix area are next-level hellspawn with how they’re treating customers and their markups. PM me if you want a dealer doing MSRP with zero add ons.

Most likely that truck has been spoken for and they are using it to make people think its going to be available just to get people in the door. The dealership that we bought my girlfriends Corolla from did that. We put down $500 deposit and the internet was saying "arriving soon".

Also, I can understand charging over MSRP, but why are they requiring him to get undesired add-ons?

    Oh look, another mod....
Bruh, what that dealer is trying to do is illegal as hell:

    https://consumer.ftc.gov/articles/auto-warranties-service-contracts

Call your local news and report him for consumer fraud.

    Is your dad in Canada?

What trim level is the truck he ordered? Thompson Toyota in Doylestown, Pennsylvania is the dealer closest to me and one of three dealers I routinely visit on Sundays to compare prices; The other two are Peruzzi Toyota in Hatfield, Pennsyvalnia and Sloane Toyota in Glenside, Pennsylvania. Of those three, Thompson is the least greedy with prices, at least on new vehicles (though they aren't as bad as Peruzzi or Sloane on used vehicles_. Sloane is without a doubt the worst, as in January of this year I saw a 2020 Corolla LE with almost 30K miles for almost $30K! Same dealer had a 2019 T4R Limited with only 23K miles last time I went a couple weeks ago, but they were asking almost $52K!

Peruzzi is nowhere near as bad as Sloane with the used car prices, but they won't list any of the prices on the window stickers and you have to go online to get them. They are charging well over sticker for 2022 Tundras and the few other brand new vehicles they have, but they will not list these prices on the vehicles or online.

Thompson was recently asking like $25K for a 2013 or 2014 T4R with over 100K miles, but the last I drove past Thompson that T4R was still there so people aren't totally stupid; Thompson's most annoying habit seems to be picking a fairly basic Tacoma from their inventory at random (usually an SR and in one case a TRD Sport) and adding thousands of dollars in accessories. These include lift kits, blackout emblems, custom wheels, etc; These trucks generally approach and sometimes exceed $50K...

One such truck was a DCSB SR modeled after Marty McFly's truck in Back to the Future that sat on the lot for a couple months before someone finally bought it; The asking price was like $48K!

Yes, and usually dealers make enough money on people willing to actually buy these add-ons without forcing them on people who don't want them, which is why I'm confused...

Dealerships need to be called out for this stuff. Reputations are everything.

i dont think that many people are going to the dealership for addons after actually owning the car these days... its just way to easy to get aftermarket parts or even oem parts from the internet.

alsothe days when going into a dealership with cash gave you bargaining power. from what i have heard(not a dealer myself) is that the dealership actually makes more if you finance. i miss the good ol days of dealing with dealers and letting them call you back or the threat of ill go next door. none of that works anymore :/

My dad has financed vehicles through the manufacturer, but never through the dealer; He financed his then-new 2013 Honda Pilot Touring through Honda at 0.9% APR. He financed the 2010 Tacoma he ended up giving me through Citadel at 0.9% back in late 2009; The loan was three years and he put $2K down.

My dad is good with saving money and could easily pay cash, but his credit is also really good and he can get such good interest rates that he prefers to finance. The newest vehicle he ever paid cash for was a 2013 Nissan Murano SV in September 2014, my mom's car which we still have. He financed a certified preowned 2018 GMC Yukon SLT with 8,200 miles in November 2018 through his bank (NFCU) at 3.3% APR for like five years but opted to pay it off early. What's annoying is that even used vehicles are considered new by the bank if they have like 7,000 miles or less, and my dad would have gotten 2.9% APR; However, it has 8,200 miles so the best NFCU could do was 3.3%. The Yukon has since been paid off so it's kind of a moot point; I was working at the dealership where he bought the Yukon, so I got him a substantial discount!
