Does anyones bed look like mine? This is with the tailgate down, in the gap between the gate and bed. It looks almost like the composite bed has been 'melted' a little, like when you put a flame to plastic...

    sorry for the poor picture.

sorry about that Phantom. I'm at work without any camera so I'll try to explain. The bracket is my dogbox. The grooves at the bottom is the tailgate, and at the top is the bed. This is in the tailgate down position. As you move from left to right along the edge of the bed you can see where the straight line of the bed goes up for a few inches and then goes back down to the straight line of the edge of the bed.

Does this help clarify or have I confused more? Sorry I don't know how to do any of the fancy arrow stuff some of you can do.

yes it is more towards the passenger side of the bed. Yours is between the tailgate and the bottom of the bed...correct? Only can be seen when you put the tailgate down?

My bed had cracks in it less than a year old. never abused or loaded with anything. Replaced by Toyota only after emailing Japan and getting a response from a US rep with a phone number. Calling and telling them how much grief my dealer was giving me. After the call I got a call from the service Manager from my dealer and he was ready to replace the bed. When It was done he asked me who I knew. I just said "MANY PEOPLE" with a smile. Truth is I googled "TOYOTA COMPLAINTS CONTACT" and searched for 20 min before finding a Japan higher ups email addy.

I looks the same as yours. I'm doubting it's a defect. Not sure what the purpose is...but it doesn't look like it's hurting anything.

thanks guys, I was just curious, you're right, it doesn't hurt anything.

It might have something to do with the mold used to form the bed or something...........

    Thanks Ed.......

Don't have a picture handy on this one, but while I'm being picky.....just noticed the other day that the top rail bed protector doesn't go all the way up the cab on both sides......stops short by almost 2 inches.....does everyone elses do that as well? I'm talking about the black plastic that is on the top lip of the bed down both sides.....what you lay your arms on while standing on the side of the truck talking about how sweet our trucks are.....:D

If anyone wants to tell me to shut up then I could just drive to the dealer and check out all the new ones on the lot...lol:D

had to resurrect this to say that it is the place where the wiring harness for the 09's go through for the tailgate camera. Longbow pointed this out when we were working on PT6's ride this weekend and I was looking where his pigtail went through.

As Longbow said, they must have known ahead that they were going to put the cameras in the 09's.
