Question for the more tech/spec savy members out there.

Unfortunately in canada, as far as I know, we can only get an xm module for our truck. I researched that some US members have purchased the toyota adapter for the system, along with the sirius universal sirius receiver. Any thoughts on whether this adapter would work with the system in a canadian tacoma. Should be the same right. My truck has the satellite ready system, and i believe it has the antena built in. The little thing on the back of the cab roof?

Assuming that adapter works I could just purchase the sirius canada universal care receiver and hook it up like just as the xm would be.

Any thoughts? or alternatively good install ideas for a sirius unit.

Ya. I considered that. From what I've heard of xm users up this way. The reception isn't very/as good. Also I should have clarified. I've got the lifetime sirius subscription so I'd rather not have too start paying again.

Howard is 100 and 101, PB is 99 but might require an activation call to unlock the channel for parental purposes, it wont cost anything but might not be active on your account yet.

I'm in southern BC and travel a lot through BC and Alberta. I got an XM years ago and the reception on it just sucked. In and out of service all the time. Mountain beside you? No service. In the shade? No service. The Sirius now is waaay better, really only cuts out in some tunnels and all the way under a roof or overhang. Maybe XM has improved their coverage though, I don't know.

As for the Tacoma, can't help there, I've permanently installed the whole regular car kit because I've got an 07 and it wasn't prewired for anything. That said I prefer the universal dock and radio too because I can pull the unit out and bring it in the garage or house and plug it in there when I'm not in the truck.

Ya thats the same thing i've heard. Where did you locate your kit. Im wondering If there is an adapter that would convert the plug for the pre-wired antenna to the plug on my radio. Fewer wires that have to be run the better.

you can not get the extra channels (Howard) on xm in Canada. they are still separate companies in Canada and did not merge like in the us. want Howard you need Sirius in Canada.

I put my radio down in the cubby in front of the cupholders. I set it off to the passenger side and it leaves enough room for my wallet or something on the driver's side of that cubby. I wired in a power socket under the cupholders for the power adapter then routed the antennae along the headliner and out the 3rd brake light. Also got the FM direct adapter that turns off the truck's radio antennae when the sirius is on so you get perfect reception on the FM side. No visible wires anywhere, works good for me. I didn't like to give up 2/3 of that cubby but there's not a lot of good alternative mounting spots.

True. I called them. But didn't someone post above that they were getting Howard and Playboy on XM...? I think the poster was from Southern alberta. The CSR at XM told me the only way would be to have an American address for your radio registration, which I should have done when I originally signed up. Too late now I guess. Hopefully XM and Sirius will eventually merge here too so we can get everything.

I have the docking port in the X with the feed to the antena and the boom box in the shop. Get my music all the time that way. I've been with Sirius for 8 years now on the US plan.
