I worked with a fellow who put a lot of effort in his garden -- and had an ongoing war with woodchucks.
He kept a 12 gauge in the bathroom and "from the seated position" could do the sniper thing out the window.

One day while sitting there reading the Readers Digest he observed a woodchuck and dispensed with it in the usual manner, unknown to him (and it wouldn't have mattered anyway) downstairs his wife was visiting with a lady from the church.

BOOM -- directly above her head
Lady: "My goodness! What was that?"
Wife: "Just my husband in the bathroom..."

The Spring mud season has arrived - when it isn't frozen.

The town replaced the culvert at the end of my road last week, apparently leaving me to compact it with my van. It is much rougher than it appears in the photo.
Part of the reason I keep the snow tires on until mid April.

Agree. It is better when they left it last week. They put the culvert in, covered it and left. The fill was a loose 6-8 inches deep at first. They had the backhoe right there, 3 minutes more work would have made quite an improvement.

For years I left for work by 5 am, if it snowed the town truck would go by around 4:30, as the older guys retired that level of service drifted away. The dairy farmer over the hill said the same thing, the milk tanker comes on a schedule and the older guys always insured it could get to the farm, not anymore.

The older guys took care of their people, the younger guys "do their job" which means you don't start plowing before 7:30 or 8. Now my little road might not get plowed until after noon.

Dun dun dunnn, I was wire brushing the rust off the base and solved the mystery. I didn’t have high hopes that it would be anything more, I’ll keep looking for a better one. It’ll do for now though!

I got the halves separated finally, even managed to clock my hand and shin with the hammer along the way!

    That’s ok - we’re still using Autocad 2002.
    — basically for viewing and minor edits of legacy drawings. Have Solidworks 2019 (I think we have newer version but trying to stay compatible with some other divisions) for most of what we do.

It's a cast iron vise from Asia. So what.

Cast iron vise's from USA are made from the same, shitty leftover iron we have here. It's just from China. It's still crappy iron

Most vise's are damaged from peeps using them as anvils. The Asian vise's get a bad reputation for not holding up. I think it entirely a PR thing.

Put the thing together and use it with pride. It's gonna outlast you.
