Is there already a 3rd-gen thread dedicated to PROs? If not, talk to me; share your picks and what it is like to finally have your dad's approval. Just me? Ok

What is the deal with Pro-bashing?

So much so that it generates a thread for discussion?

 

Are you referring to this thread or there's actually a thread for bashing pros? My title for this thread is satire.

I think there are several reasons: 1) people are committed to their purchases and have to emphatically proclaim why they didn't go for something deemed by the company as better (cognitive dissonance is a thing); 2) we humans like to create in/out groups to feel superior; 3) you used to be able to buy Tacomas below MSRP, so it used to make much more sense to buy a lower trim if the plan was to modify the truck. I'm sure I'm missing a few other reasons, but those are my observations.

 

Lol I could care less if you have a Pro. I have an OR. I am not looking for sympathy.

 

Hey, I couldn't care less if I had a pro either! haha. I just. wanted a fk'n truck and this was my option. As someone who kicks up some dust occasionally going dispersed camping with his family, yet mainly commutes to work and hauls lumber for a hobby, I couldn't be happier. Would I have been just as happy in an OR, limited, etc? Who knows? I'm certain I would have paid more to get it looking how I like it to look, however.

 

Speaking of hauling lumber... just built two benches for my daughter for use in dining area....

 

I basically just wanted a thread for pros because there are subtle enough difference that might be useful to discuss regarding suspension, mods, etc. I also like to see what others are doing to theirs. I also want support for ripping off the pro badge because it always drips dirt after I wash the damn thing.

 

Nice work! What of many strategies did you use to fit and fasten the dividers? We could easily turn this into a 2nd woodworking thread because I prefer the subject over trucks.

Seems to me, there may have been other threads that influence the name in this titled thread.

Everyone has their reasons for buying a vehicle--trim lines distinguish how much someone wants to spend based on their creature comforts/spoiling themselves attribute.

Other people's opinions are just that...opinions. Somehow, those opinions seem to influence our reactive behavior towards a decision on a vehicle purchase.

Think about that for a second...is that the satire you seek?

Top is 3/4x2 cabinet grade plywood. Dividers are 3/4 plywood using nine dowels and glue to secure them on three sides. I made moldings to cover edges of plywood and screws. I use gorilla wood glue. I heard it holds hair in place forever.

 

I was taking a dig at myself as a pro owner, exaggerating the theme of the digs from others about pros. This thread was created to discuss pro trucks for better or for worse, not to spurn or stir up controversy or hurt feelings, let alone why someone decided to buy the trim. Also, I paid 45k which is easily what someone with an OR could have paid.

 

I mean vs an SR/SR5/OR/SPORT theres really no difference besides suspension, diff, Multi-Terrain Select, crawl control, stock tires(?) and a badge on the side. If you want to talk about those specific items just search or make a thread for them. Everything else is gonna be the same between most all trims, doesn't seem like you would ever need a PRO specific thread. It's the same truck at the end of the day.

 

Appreciate it! Tough to beat Mt. Hood in the fall.

 

And yet here we are There's a lot of talk about fitting 33s in pros vs other trims, and now with the new UCA, there's a whole other problem. Again, I also just want to see more pics of TW member's pros. Is that too much to ask? There are threads for other trims, btw...

 

Is plywood still astronomically priced in CA these days? Smart move with the dowels. Did you have a jig for even pilot holes or just used a tape measure? I haven't messed with gorilla glue over titebond, but I'm certain it'll hold up forever in that thing (not a lot of stress on those joins unless folks are jumping on it!)

 

$68 a sheet in South Carolina. I calculate 6000 lb before top deflects....
Gorilla glue is great... need to get a move on when using tho because it has about 10 minutes max of working time. This is my hobby, how I get away from drawings and meetings and designs. Just go to the shop and create stuff.

I hadn't seen dedicated PRO threads...maybe I haven't noticed them showing up in new threads.

There's many different packs of followers on forums...some engage and some don't.

Sharing in your happiness of a vehicle purchase is something I encourage. By all means, have at it.

 

Serious question....is PRO an acronym for something? Or is it just short for professional? Do you have to have a off roading degree from Toyota U before you can buy one?
