Anyone trading their Taco for a Tesla Model 3?

My 4 year old model 3 still can charge to
Over 300 miles and my 5 year old x can charge to 275, so batteries can hold up well, and Tesla working on million mile batteries.

 

Was asking about the battery pack as a whole, does it need to be replaced at 8-10 years? Isn’t the BMW battery warranty 8 years/100K miles?

 

Sounds like it should be life of the vehicle.

Not sure if EVs go by the same 800 cycles / 80% life as computer and phone tech companies do. Meaning a smartphone battery is rated to have 80% of its total original charge available after 800 full discharges

 

Thanks. Pretty good if true. Not sure I would buy an EV with only 1-2 years left on the battery warranty. I do keep my vehicles for a long time though. Last truck was 20 years. (actually still have it)

 

Yeah hard to say how long “life of the vehicle is” but I think the idea is that they’re comparable to ICE engine life

 

Yes 8 years 100k. unless it dies tomorrow it works as it should. I've owned a few EV cars and never had issues with them. It's not a car for traveling just running around town, going to work or trips less than 150 miles. I have a ford maverick for traveling that gets 30+ mpg's.

 

Car batteries are rated in the thousands of cycles. Here is the the best way to not degrade the battery, stay between 20% and 80%. Car batteries are not like cell phones.

 

Some people just drink the oil company cool-aid.

Yes every few years, or in my last tacoma case 3 months lol. Longest time i've owned a vehicle was 6 years. I'm a tech guy so like the new tech.

Nope not to you, I know battery tech very well, it's kinda a hobby of mine and build batteries all the time and I would say unless your battery was really neglected it should be fine for 500k miles, yeah you might only have 50% left but still works and if you want just pop a new pack in. last I checked the pack for the i3 was 4 or 5 thousand.

 

Get bored quick then, yeah? Not sure how that is good for the environment. Kinda defeats the purpose of going EV if your thirst for consumer products is insatiable.

 

EV's are not suppose to save the world but thats how the media lays it out. I like them for the smooth unrelenting G's under acceleration. The look on the guys faces thinking those gas sports cars are fast is priceless. Ever been in a car that did 0-100 in 3.8 seconds? I almost threw up in a Tesla Plaid.

Don’t think they are going to be much better for the environment, can’t see how consuming more and more is going to save it. That is thing I hate about electronic gadgetry, engineered obsolescence…instead of building products to last. Seems like as soon as you buy an electronic product, it is outdated before you take it out of the box. Tesla with a million mile battery is on the right track, but probably another empty promise from Musk.

Ahhh…not much in a hurry these days, could care less about G-Forces and 0-100 times. Rather sit back and enjoy the view while I still can before we destroy it all.

Ummm yeah…seems like most tech geeks have severe ADHD, never can leave well enough alone…lol! It is like fuuuuuck quit changing things! Just got used to the last update…and now you rearranged it again!

 

Just note, they burn through tires and they are pricy tires. My buddy has had 2 and both of them have done this. He said Tesla acknowledged it. I like them and have driven his and its great but figure you're going to pay for not paying for the gas somewhere.

 

As far a tire wear on a Tesla, (Model 3 RWD Long Range),I think it may have to do how you drive it and your settings. If you are a conservative driver, tire wear should not be an issue. My wife has a 2018 Model 3 and the tires are wearing fine.

 

Depends on your "Lifestyle" I've had 5 different trucks in my lifetime, now waiting for my Tesla Cybertruck. Our Tesla Model 3 belongs to my wife, I don't see that is my personal everyday vehicle. A Truck is a Truck.

 

Trucks are/have been by far the best selling vehicles around for a long time. My estimate is very low % of population actually needs a truck, 4x4 or that much ground clearance, me included. I just like the look and that's how vast majority of people buy. This may change if the inflation doesn't stop soon lol.

This is flat out wrong. Infrastructure everywhere across North America is aging quickly and becoming really bad.
Where I'm at in Canada (Quebec, pos 3rd world province), you NEED a Tacoma or similar just to drive down main street because the roads are so bad that anything with smaller wheels and lower suspension would costs you thousands in repair every year My VW sedan costed me about 4k in suspension and other components every year. Tax dollars are not making in down to infrastructure repair.

It's not about off roading, it's about having a vehicle that can survive crumbling 3rd world-esque infrastructure. Downtown Montreal streets look like Fallujah in 2004. As for 4x4, I need to park outside and in the winter I'm too lazy to shovel in/out of snow banks so I just crawl on top of them. Haven't touched a shovel in years.

The first world is becoming the 3rd world and this is why pick-ups are outselling compacts, sedans, etc.
