Fitting 35’s with minimal trimming NOW ADDING LONG TRAVEL AND 934 CV’s

I bet he does. The interior is pretty incredible. I don’t think I’d ever be able to afford one. I’ll just keep dreaming.

 

I have that step file and its not accurate so I wish him luck lol. Also finally ordered the pivot kit

I'm interested to hear what Harry thinks about cutting the roof off to weld the cage...

 

Ya I was thinking the same thing.

 

Here is my guess....Why cut the roof off if you dont have to. The way I saw Harry do the cage is that at the bottom each leg slides into a sleeve..weld the cage 360...push the cage back up then weld the cage at the sleeves... im not sure if the cage is welded first then the sleeves go on and those get welded to the frame and cage gets welded to the sleeves but its something like that.

I bet that truck got full body/paint work. So cosmetic issues with cutting the cab off weren’t that big a deal. Chop it, weld cage, weld the cab back, body work then paint.

 

I figured it was a 'lift the cab up to weld the top of the cage then set her back down' type deal with the holes in the cab to tie into the frame.

 

Not to mention it’s basically a full chassis truck.

Every fabricator has their way of doing things. Doesn’t make it right or wrong. RJ builds some really sick stuff.

 

Given the +/- 1/4" tolerance* toyota builds frames too, do the accuracy of the step file mater?

*Before we bend the shit out of them on the rocks...

 

Wasn't judging and definitely not saying it's right or wrong. Just curious as I've never heard of that technique actually used.

I will say Harry's sleave method mentioned by Airdog is pretty dang smart. Why cut the cab, spend all that time realigning, welding and body twerkin' if you don't have to?

 

Well, if the truck is going to body after the build its really nothing to cut a roof and weld it back up. So I am sure that's a big part of it. Weve gone from roof off to roof on in a day on restorations. Its not as complicated as it sounds.

 

It’s not complicated it’s just adds days of work, between the fab and finish work it’s easily another 40hrs of work start to finish. At $125+ an hour you do the math.

And why cut it off if there is a better way where you don’t have to?

Personally I’m not into trucks with stock frames at all, too many limitations

 

Can't speak to any actual offroad sanctioning bodies but in drag racing and circle track racing that isn't allowed, that's if you plan on racing. We cut the roofs off a lot to weld up cages or remove and swap to a new car.

 

Uh…Ok….hence why I said “why cut off the roof if you don’t have to”. Looks like in your case you have to.

 

Truthfully, If I were caging my truck during this build I would 100% be cutting the roof off to finish the cage considering all of the glass will be out and the doors will be off for paint. But that's also what I'm used to and comfortable with doing.
