Well it turns out the timing cover is leaking. They said will have my truck for at least 10-14 days all depending on parts availability. Not very happy, but what can you do. Tearing into a brand new truck. Oh well!

Did you ask about an extended warranty?

I just found out and will be meeting with the service manager and general manager to discuss that. I went to school with the owners daughter so maybe that will help some. We will see.

I don’t think it’s an unreasonable thing to politely ask for.

    Re post 25 :D

@Cazman13 sorry about being right. I'm wrong so often that I was hoping for a repeat.

Glad the ID'd it right away, and didnt give a hassle.

When you meet, find out their 'approach'. Pulling the engine or opening up the front body work for access. It will help you to examine for post surgery scars.

HAHA no worries Bill! Oh believe me and you I will be looking that thing over with a fine tooth comb and white glove! From what I was told they will be doing it while in the truck. But that is what the advisor said. I will ask the service manager for sure.

Not reasonable. They need to order all parts and have all of them prior to working on your truck. Meanwhile you drive it and take it in when they are really ready. Why does your truck need to sit at the dealership for over a week?

I totally understand what you are saying, but hey keeps miles off my truck and puts them on the loaner.

Yes they did. I live 1.5 hours from the closest dealer. I told them if you are keeping it, I need a vehicle.

I recently discovered the timing cover leak on my 2017 at 78k. I have no idea how long it’s been seeping (no fluid on the ground… yet). Shocked to hear it is affecting even the newest years. I even had to replace both my wheels hubs on the drivers side recently. That wasn’t a cheap replacement either. That shouldn’t be the case with only 78k. Very disappointed in the 3rd gens to hear the timing cover leak hasn’t been resolved even after 6-7 years of production. When the new gen Tundra enters its third or fourth year I’m parting ways with my Taco.

It’s sad. We have owned 15 Toyotas since 2006. Never really any issues at all other than a bad trans in a 2011 Rav4. The gears were cut wrong and it whined. Now this with less than 3k. Come on Toyota. I mean I know their quality is still much better than many others, but still. Maybe because of past experiences I hold them to a higher standard.

I really hate that for you and hope this will be the only issue you have for long time. Last year I had my frame replaced under the extended rust warranty. Understanding that they disassemble the entire truck, I asked to speak directly to the tech once they had it apart. I gave him $100 and asked that he please put it back together correctly and thanked him in advance. So far no issues and he even fixed a the aux reverse lights no charge. He was their master tech who said he had done 50+ of them.

Having said all that, I’m sure they will put a top tech on it and it will be done right. It’s a beautiful truck and should last you a long time!

Great looking truck! I’m sure it will be better than new soon. Sounds like you have an “in” at the dealership and that will help.

So they told me last week that it will be done by the end of this week. I was told around noon it was done. So at 4 pm I drive the 1.5 hours to the dealer. Service closes at 6. I get the keys and drive it into the service drive to check it over. It was raining outside so they offered for me to use the service drive. I looked over the outside as good as possible since it’s covered in water. All looked good… then I opened the hood. It was very clean and tidy. But as I’m looking around I see spots where the main harness goes along the engine and the firewall and the clips are broken to the harness isn’t even attached to anything and is just hanging there. So I go get the owners wife and she said no you’re not taking the truck like this. I said I don’t want it like this. So they hand me the keys back to the rental. I said while there was a waste of 3 hours. So she offers to have the truck delivered once it’s fixed and take their rental car back. What bothers me a little is that if the tech(s) are that shoddy about the harness. What else was shoddy/half arsed done? I’m sure I’m over thinking. But gezz come on. It’s quite obvious the harness isn’t made to just hang there. *face palm*

It's hard to get quality work done. I hope they solved the main issue.

Well I hope they got the leaking timing cover sealed up! But they need to fix what the tech messed up also. It’s a truck with less than 3,000 miles. I’m not accepting it back with a busted up wiring hardness. So time will tell. Fingers crossed!

I predict an abundance of zip ties.

In your earlier post you said they'd be doing the work in-truck.

Which begs the question why the harness by the firewall was disturbed.

Methinks it was more open heart surgery than angioplasty.

Meaning you might ask them to let you examine it up on a lift.......
