I've been going over my new Taco these last couple of months, trying to figure out what the previous owner did, didn't do, and what needs to be replaced/upgraded. There was a broken plastic piece attached at the center rear of the bed, just below the back window, along the top. One of the T30 bolts holding it on (or rather holding on what was left) was stripped and I had to use a Dremel to cut a slot to remove it. Any ideas as to what this was originally? The truck did come with the OEM tonneau cover, but I'm not sure this was part of that system. Based on the shadow/UV lines left behind it was pill shaped and held on by both bolts.

Maybe a tonneau cover attachment point?

I thought about that, but all of those were installed along the sides of the bed.

EDIT: yup, that was a mounting point.

Ah ha! Okay, not sure what that part is supposed to do—not that it matters as I took the cover off since going with the bed rack—but that solves that mystery. Thanks y'all.

Manufacturer’s tag, you just voided the warranty.

Jokes on them, I'm already 300 miles past their warranty.
