But I guess those low hanging fruit make everyone feel super effective when the end of year numbers come across their desk. Plus the public wants to hear impressive numbers on prosecution and doesn't actually care about the quality or whether such cases actually made them safer...

I will simply say that it is never a bad idea, in any situation, to examine what you can control and what you can't.

You cannot control what legislators and enforcers do or do not do, but you can control where you reside and conduct your business, and therefore what laws you have exposure to. I leave it at that. We're not disagreeing, if that's worth anything to you.

Didn't you just leave Portland? Decriminalization of all drugs doesn't seem to have helped anything. I unfortunately (not for long) live in Portland, and it has become a terrible place to live because of the homeless meth addicts. The city has lost control, gun violence is way up because they thought it was a good idea to get rid of the gang/gun unit. I came from Chicago where violence is still rampant, and nobody cares... 800+ senseless murders last year and you do not hear about it.
