What's making that tick more than anything else in this case is that it's a $3000 vehicle.

Insurer's risk on Liability Only Policy: $500,000 in liability coverage, or whatever.
Insurer's risk on Full Coverage Policy: $503,000 on everything.

Their rate algo probably doesn't even consider them separate numbers, lol.

There is a pretty solid distinction between pot smokers and those who abuse hard drugs though. It's probably rare for pot heads to cut car stereos out of dashboards for weed money, for example.

 

I went the umbrella route. $1.5m in coverage for home and vehicles and it costs me about $2600 a year

 

Some states allow this, some don't.

In NC you're required to have minimum liability amounts on your homeowners and auto before they issue you an umbrella.

So we have 350k on the cars, 500k on homeowners, and a separate 2m umbrella policy on top of those that kicks in when auto/homeowners caps the relevant limit or if it's a liability concern not covered by those policies (Awards show slapping injury?). All in per year it's around 3k.

 

Gotcha. I've had the same gal taking care of my insurance since 2005. I tell her what I own and that I want to be protected (within reason) from all eventualities. She sends me a bill every october and I pay it and get credit card points.

She's retiring soon though. I dunno what I'm gonna do without my insurance mom

 

Yeah I pay $62 a month right now for full coverage on my 2010 liability all that jazz and the 250,000 extended coverage
