Not sure if anyone remembers me asking if I should pass up on a cancelled customer's truck due to premium package question. This truck the customer backed out and the lady I spoke to at the dealer asking about it said it was pre-sold but took down my info. I took delivery of that 6spd manual access cab around noon today. My neighbor was gracious enough to let me borrow his truck and another friend's car trailer. Only got about 4 hours of sleep at a rest stop and got back to my house literally 24 hours later. I feel that I betrayed ya'll with how this came into place and with my other deposits floating at a few dealerships, I never had an assigned allocation yet so I just "sent it" as recommend by ya'll. All seems surreal that my dream Tacoma is in my driveway finally - dealership was cool after I asked for them not to clean it up as I'd like to prep it myself.taco1.jpg taco2.jpg taco3.1.jpg

So long story short - use that kissmygritts website and call dealers that have your ideal truck listed, and if its spoken for ask them to give you a call if customer backs out or another one is due in on a future allocation. I really hope that each one of you gets the truck that you ordered or close to it, don't pass up on something if it has extra packages (like I was considering doing).

After a few months of looking around and a couple weeks conversing with a handful of dealerships I found near enough what I was looking for that someone pulled their from, so I jumped at it. Put the deposit down on 3/26 and was told it would be a week or two. on 3/31 I was told they had an update that was sitting at 4/14-4/19 for delivery. Looking through the last 40 pages of this thread (sorry the whole thing is just far too long) I have pulled the Vspec page which matches those dates and installed the phone app to monitor that as well. Hoping that the date doesn't get pushed around as it isn't that far out, but worse things could happen as long as the timing chain on my Explorer doesn't give out first.

I put my deposit down the week before Christmas. I just did all the paperwork today and it will be here Monday. Lunar Rock TRD OR AC. It almost like Christmas in April.

If it was a M/T, I would jump all over it. I'm so tired of waiting. I'm shocked its still available.

All of the dealerships around here are running similar BS, some charging as much as 12k over new MSRP on a truck with 9k miles on it. I have 10 dealerships that are closer to me than the one I am going to, but they aren't playing the games like everyone else.

I could have had it in magnetic gray for an extra $10k the day I ordered mine, but held out for color and specs I wanted.

There’s almost the exact same truck available at a dealership in Somerset, KY. I was hoping they weren’t going to do the mark-up stuff and I could snag it but they are charging $5k over. Dealerships also seem to not even want business from anyone out of town without charging a butt ton up front.

The price doesn’t look to far off at all for the set up.
Maybe 2k higher? But if it’s what you want and it’s there it’s worth not waiting..to me anyway.
    I’d buy it.
I agreed to 1k over MSRP because of all the BS out there at other dealerships and this dealership gives you a “life time unlimited mileage” drivetrain Warranty…..I thought that was worth the 1k it’s self

after taking a second and third look I can see it’s a lot less truck for more money than I have asked for in allocation but again if it’s what you want and it’s there it would be worth a conversation to put the process behind you…like I said, to me anyway

It's definitely 4.5k over MSRP for that configuration.

    https://guest.dealer.toyota.com/v-spec/3TMCZ5AN5NM486304/detail

Don't reward these dealers. Fuck them. Be patient, travel if you need to. 80% of new car sales are above MSRP right now, but that means 20% are not. Find the dealers in the 20% area and just keep looking for your truck already allocated to one. Even if it takes a little travel.

In my experience, the dealers further from major population centers seem to be more likely to charge MSRP. Probably because they know they have a smaller pool of customers and if they treat them all like marks today, they may not have any business once inventory rebounds.

That's my exact situation. Bought mine 4 hours upstate from NYC. The available lunar Rock TRD off Rd long bed at one of the nearest dealers to me was $13k over msrp but told me it's negotiable. $13k over!!!!! They want $55k for it. I hope in better times these criminal dealers starve. 4 hour ride to a dealer to save $13k is a no brainer. Sent me documentation stating they would not charge me a single penny over the msrp with my build and deposit info. I had two other friends that called my dealer and they did say they can no longer take build orders from non local customers but they were welcome to leave deposits on any incoming unclaimed units at msrp. Fair enough. My daughter lives 15 min from my dealer so I will use him for service when it's due. There are a few good dealers around you just need to look around and be willing to drive to them........maybe fly.

I'm from Canada where we don't have straight dealer mark-ups (vague law up here makes it seem it's not allowed). A few dealers try and add accessories but mostly it's very easy to get a truck at MSRP. However, it's a long wait.

I'm curious are all these outrageous mark-ups in USA mostly on trucks that are on the lot? Is it because if you want one today you have to pay a mark-up, but that same dealer will take a deposit on a truck at straight MSRP but you have to wait months to get it? Or are the long wait orders also marked up?
