Try cleaning your throttle body and MAF. If you want run some injector cleaner. Premium fuel doesn't do a whole lot for stock engines anymore.

Higher octane won’t do any of that. If you really are worried, use “top tier” gasoline from a busy station. That’s the best you can do. But 87 will do everything 91-93 octane will for a stock truck

I have tried a few tanks of both and saw no difference so use regular.

I recently just tried a tank of premium and saw a gain of 1mpg from 14.6 to 15.6. Can't tell you why but I definetly wont do it again because of the low benefit to new engines. Isn't worth it considering 87 was 3.89 and premium was 4.65:anonymous:

Pretty much any gasoline brand will be fine. 87 unless you’re tuned for higher or hear detonation when towing or payloads are high.

Personally, I’d run VP in my car if I could afford to throw money. Not for the octane number, but the purity. I’m not convinced that the cleaners and additives of pump gas is good.
Here are two pistons from the same motorcycle, each run for 50hrs, with the only change being fuel. 91 octane top tier gas for the first picture, VP 101 on the second. The difference is very apparent in the amount of carbon build up.
    5CB3178F-4512-4A56-89EC-1CB748EBCF58.jpg F5C9D9C1-4144-4D96-8751-88E1C0361874.jpg

The second image after VP 101, the carbon deposited could be scrapped off with my fingernail with ease. The carbon on the previous piston was permanent.

This leads me to believe that the cleaner/purest gas available is best.
The brand that carry’s that depends on the supplier they get it from.

Then maybe a tank additive every once in a while to see if the soft deposits could be removed. I’d need to do more research on tank cleaners though.

I’ve noticed ’Hi-test’ is usually a term people of a particular age use. Am I correct?

If you're running an N/A set up you can run regular unleaded

If you're running a power adder you should be running 91 to 93 octane Premium unleaded

Lots of reasons why any one tank can show higher, or lower, than typical consumption. The fact is, Premium fuel has slightly less power per unit than Regular fuel. Why? The anti-knock additives, which are non-combustible, displace a certain percentage of combustible fuel, hence the slightly lower power, all else being equal.
