DCSB 2.7l MT 4wd

I have been searching all over and can’t find anything on this, though I believe I came across a thread yesterday where a few people said they own this config on a 16 or 17…and now I can’t find it!

So first, is there such a thing? The Hilux has this config, so I would hope there are some Tacomas out there like it.

If I was keeping my current car, I’d just get this with the access cab instead, as those are easy to come across. However, I just got married and will simply not be able to keep my car and have a truck too. I don’t “need” a truck, I just want it for the occasional Home Depot runs or yardwork kind of stuff, and maybe a couple weekends a year for camping/snowboard trips.

Priorities:
1) 4-cyl: I do not need the power or towing capacity. I’m a teacher that has a 40 minute daily drive. I like what I hear about this bulletproof motor.

2) Manual Transmission: Driving is just not enjoyable for me in an automatic.

3) Double Cab: If I’m getting rid of my car, I’ll need to be able to fit passengers, or have my dog in the back, or kids in the near future.

4) 4wd: If I’m buying a truck, I feel like the rare opportunity to go have some fun in this thing may arise and I would hate to not have it.

Does anyone have any info or know of any threads where this is discussed?

Almost positive this doesn’t exist. That’s a lot of weight for a 4 banger to be moving. The v6 is very reliable.

 

I believe I have the only one in existence (2nd gen not 3rd gen, but still). They never made this configuration. But I converted my DCSB to 4WD (actually also converted to MT cause it started out as AT).

 

My son was shopping for a Tacoma a month ago and ran across quite a number of 2nd Gen DCSB models with the 2.7 and three pedals under the dash. In his case the 2.7 was too gutless and he ultimately found one with a 4.0 V6 and a 6MT.

 

Man, you teachers are frugal! (I'ma teacher too, btw) The Access cab is big enough for a kid until they are 10 or so, AND a dog. A rear facing seat will NOT fit in the back of the Access Cab, unless you modify the access area to have the child seat sit in the middle, between the two seats. Someone here has done exactly such, and it is probably safer anyway.

 

No, I don't think so, the manual tranny 2.7 DCSB Tacos my son looked at were pretty tarted out; definitely not fleet vehicles.

 

Yes, but not DCSB. There were lots of of Access cabs and regular cabs. But there were zero 2.7 MT 4x4 DCSB made.

 

Toyota sold 2.7 DCSB's, but I never saw it offered in 4wd or manual transmission. This wasn't offered in Canada, but Remember searching it out on the US site a few years ago.

 

Pretty sure manual was only offered with V6 starting with the 3rd gen as the 2.7 was a base engine only offered in SR trim. About half of SRs end up with the V6.

2.7 is bullet proof but fuel economy is no better than then V6 and is painful to drive in stop and go traffic. But a lot of that has to do with the transmission programming. Atleast for me it doesn’t make sense because it struggles towing 1500lbs up hill

 

2016 and 2017 SR had a 4x4 4 banger MT in an Access Cab.

 

2016-2017 with the 2.7L and manual transmission were only offered in Access Cab with 4WD.

2016+ with a 2.7L and Double Cab are only offered in 2WD with an automatic transmission.

They never built the truck you’re looking for.

I disagree, my son drove at least 3 2.7 liter DCSB 2nd Gen Tacomas with manual transmissions.

I'm not sure what your source is, but believe it or not, they did. I went with him on one test drive, it was a deep green metallic, I don't remember the year, 2010 I think; sure wish I took a picture of it to prove the doubters here wrong.

 

Must have been a V6 then.

 

Sorry, no, I popped the hood; definitely an I4 engine. When he found the 2009 Barcelona Red Tacoma he ended up buying the test drive was night and day better than the anemic 2.7 in the green one. Like I said, I wish I'd taken pictures; the green one was super clean and were it not for the engine, he would have bought it on the spot.

 

Probably not too hard to figure out if you just go to kbb.com select a year and trim level and get a trade in quote. If the trim level exists with a 2.7L and a manual trans with 4doors they would have it listed.

 

I don’t know what to tell you. They didn’t make them in a Double Cab. They made plenty of them in Access cab.

 

I echo your first sentence; "I don't know what to tell you." I just checked back in my text messages from my son and sure enough, the listing was for a 2012 (not 2010 as I posted above) 2.7 liter DCSB with a 6MT.

 

They made this configuration in the 2nd gen that his son looked at. It was not made in the 3rd gen that began in 2016.
