    Our first set of Furniture was bought at K-Mart on a K-Mart credit card. We splurged and also bought a 26" color tv that must have weighed a 100lbs. I was a starting teacher bringing home $750 a month (1978), my house payment was $350 a month. Used to sneak across the street and help myself to my neighbors beer tapper in his garage, Schlitz! One plastic pitcher at a time...

    The last time I did, it was to call collect.

    That brings up something else... In my old apartment building, the intercom / buzzer thing was busted. So I told friends when they wanted to visit was to use the pay phone in front of my building to make a collect call. I instructed them to tell the operator that you'd like to make a collect call to me. Tell them your first name is your first name, and your last name is "door". I will decline the call, then walk down the two flights to let you in...
