Last week I was on vacation for a week so the truck sat for seven days for the first time in it's life. When I got back I developed a squeak from the belts/pulleys. Spraying water on the ribbed part eliminated the squeak entirely! Must be the belt I'm thinking. Easy. $50 part ordered.

    https://youtu.be/5Q7SWg_dMb8

Except that was two days ago and today, driving home from work I heard a new clicking sound- different from the one in the video! Rhythmic with the RPMs and nonexistent at idle. Almost like a playing card stuck in the radiator. Couldn't reproduce it, but the belt squeak is back again. I'm already waiting for the replacement belt, but something tells me it's more than that.

Ruled out the high pressure fuel pump since all is quiet (relatively) on the passengers side of the engine.

Any idea which idler pulley is suspect? I'll be checking them all this weekend when I replace the belt. Any additional info is appreciated.

Welp, not much of an update since the replacement belt is only arriving on Tuesday, but this weekend the weather was nice- I put away the winter tires, changed the oil and filter and took the belt off to take a look. Absolutely nothing wrong with it or any of the pullies. Cleaned it with a toothbrush, added a few sprays of 303 protectant and put it back in. No more squeaks, everything is back to silent.

I did the same for my tundra serpentine belt when it was making those noises...put the old belt back, it ran fine for a thousand miles or so, and the noises came back. A new belt solved it for quite awhile till the same belt noises returned. I found later toyota had a tsb for this that required new pulleys to correct some sort of alignment issue.

Filled my truck up with gas today, restarted, and got the chirp/click that rose and fell with RPMs. Stuck my head under the hood and its originating from the drive belt/pulleys. Good to see there is a TSB that describes this condition but of course my truck is at 44K and I am going to eat this one. Is this a relatively easy DIY? I lean on my mechanic for most anything moderately difficult and above.

Just wanted to follow up on this since it's been a little over 5 thousand miles since my last repair.

    No more noises.

The noises you hear in the video that I posted were fixed by removing the belt, cleaning with soapy wooder and a light spritz of 303.
