Funny how the gun hobby gets reignited and I haven't even thought about spending more money on the truck.

Apex fully machined sear ordered for the Shield.

    Sort of the same.

I have all my needs budgeted. Any extra money that comes in....side hustle, birthday/Christmas checks, etc. go into a fun account.

Between the recent gun purchase, trigger upgrades, shooting range membership and targets....my fun money has run out for now.

Replaced the sear in my M&P Shield40 yesterday. The pull weight on it before was about 6.5lbs. That doesn't sound like much, but it was not smooth and felt like I was hitting a wall that would just suddenly break. That movement was causing me to jerk the gun a little. After pulling out the old sear, I can see exactly what I was feeling.

    upload_2022-4-12_7-56-13.jpg

The top one is the factory sear. You can see the "wall" with the rounded curve as opposed to the gradual ramp that is present on the Apex.

Dry fire exercises seem MUCH improved. Now to get by the range and see if that translates to tighter groupings on paper.

https://www.apextactical.com/fully-machined-sear-45-shield-mp-2 - fits most M&P pistols....Shield (gen 1 and 2), Shield 45, M&P 2.0 for sure. Ordering direct from Apex was cheaper than any other site due to the free shipping and no tax. Ebay had it for cheaper, but charged tax. Other sites I checked either had tax or shipping (some both). At this point, I'm considering it $40 well spent.

Anyone shot the Springfield SA35? I've always wanted a Browning Hi Power, but the triggers on them sucked. Springfield remedied this with their SA35.

In FL aggravated manslaughter just means the death of victim was caused by the culpable negligence of defendant.

    Still a felony.

I bought my gen 1 9mm Shield and for years considered it a waste of money and time. Horrible shooter with a trigger like shifting an old VW bug. Finally decided to do a simple fit (reshape) and polish to the sear and sear block, polished all the working parts and ramp and added an M-Carbo spring kit. It became a totally different piece of equipment that is an amazing shooter with crisp trigger break and smooth action. Now one of my favorites and the best Saturday afternoon and $25 I ever spent. If you have an older Shield jump in and do it!

Sounds like you've at least reviewed the Burwell trigger job PDF on improving the shield trigger pull. I looked at the M-Carbo spring kit, but my shield is my EDC and I didn't want the trigger THAT much lighter. I'm still considering doing the apex ultimate striker block upgrade, but I want to shoot it a few time with just the sear first. I haven't borrowed the tool again to measure trigger pull now, but I believe it to be around 4.5 lbs.

FWIW, my shield has several hundred (if not thousand+) rounds through it, so it wasn't a matter of breaking it in.

My first mod to the gun was to replace the S&W trigger with the Hyve Tech trigger. While I was in there, I added one of the Hyve-Tech rear slide covers. Just the trigger helped it out quite a bit, but didn't fix all the issues. There are so many countless reports of people just like us who love the Shield and the concept behind it, but feel that the trigger design was poorly executed. They made some improvements in the second gen, but not really (IMO).

Yes, worked through the Burwell's instructions and a great video I can't find again. Mine had at least 1K rounds through it too prior to the work. I think the reshaping the sear and sear block made the most difference and the polishing finishes it off. I shot it after that work and before installing the springs. The springs, I kept the stock sear block spring, seemed to make the most difference with trigger reset. This simple work seems like a must for the early shields. I haven't shot a newer model to compare the "improvements".

Any idea your current trigger pull weight? I think I read the m-carbo spring took it down to around 2 lbs along with those other mods. I stopped where I did because I figured the 4.5lbs was comfortable for a carry gun.

I also have not shot a second gen shield, but I have shot the m&p2.0. I consider the trigger upgrade to be supremely beneficial on those as well.
