(New Mod Poll) PRO thread (all gens welcome)

Don't know about the rest of you, I chose to get my SR-5. i could've gotten anyone I wanted at the time of purchase. The SR-5 was my pick. Zero regrets. All models and configurations are really good trucks, with even better resale value. Are any of them perfect ? Hell no. At the end of the day they're just appliances.

 

you forgot that the OR has the bigger rear diff unless you bought a manual Sport, which is a big deal if you tow or offroad alot.

 

Me either. Honestly I think it's cheaper to buy the pro if your going to lift it and change everything anyway.

 

That was my point in my reply...less than $5K in add-ons/upgrades from a Sport that cost $38,870.

A TRD Pro costs in excess of $46K and I'm being kind in that price.

The bashing comes from members expressing how they feel about spending money...because we all spend differently.

EDIT: And from the looks of it, we may become snobs because of it. (Generalized statement)

EDIT#2 The cost of a TRD/OR is comparable to a Sport...+/- $1K. Still, you can dress (upgrade) your TRD/OR as you please.

 

Depends. I got my '19 in '20 just before everything went stupid for $38k. Right now the local dealer has a SR5 for $38k.

Similar here. Mine was $40k back in late 2016. Felt like a lot then but it’s a steal by today’s standard

 

Same for mine. Paid 40,500 out the door and tried everything I could to get it under 40 and the dealer wouldn’t budge, they already dropped it 6k.

I remember sitting their with my wife complaining a taco is over 40k but it’s exactly the truck I wanted. Man how the times have changed price wise!

These Tacomas were in the $40Ks back in 2016? (I'm guessing it was the TRDs and not the entry level SR5 models)

I feel fortunate in getting my 2021 TRD Sport for the price I did. I had a trade-in and put some cash down and financed thru my own bank for $35K.

It felt good considering I paid $32K for my silver 2003 Honda Pilot EX/DVD in July of 2002.

 

Damn, I guess the TRD Skid plate wasn't even worth it eh? maybe that quarter-inch aluminum plate doesn't do anything. Hmmmm, come to think of it maybe the TRD exhaust is only for looks, doesn't do anything either I guess. Oh maybe the factory lift doesn't do anything. OHHHH can't forget, it's definitely the PRO decals that gives all the horsepower mall crawling abilities.

Last time I looked at a military pay scale, I know an O-6 makes some darn good retirement money. You've earned that right to get what you want because you can afford it.

As for people here berating others for their choice, that is just plain unacceptable behavior. Unfortunately, these are fully baked personalities that spew their opinion as if it's gospel.

As a retired E-7, I'm comfortable with being in the middle of the road when it comes to vehicle purchases. But like you said, "buy the truck you like and can afford."

 

Ordered a pro because I like the look of it and in my market it's actually going to cost less long term compared to buying an OR due to resale. Had a 2017 OR as well so wanted something a bit different this time.

The issue is my truck may never actually arrive.

 

I feel for you man. I "ordered" a cement DCLB in June, but winded up with my pro in September because everything's so messed up and worsening. Hang in there! Hope you're on the "when did your 2022 arrive?" thread. It was a nice support group

 

Fellow Sport owner here. I understand that this thread is for Pro owners, but after reading all of the funny/hate/"done my research" comments, I can't help but feel compeled to write something.

Do I regret my Sport? Sort of. Do I wish I had a Pro? Yes. But do I tell people that they made a bad investment? Absolutely not.

Pros cost more, and I think that is the part that rubs non-Pro users the wrong way. They feel "less than" because you were able to afford more. Personally, I'm looking to get a new vehicle, so I don't care much. But I hate to see all the negativity towards Pro owners. It's funny to see someone bashing Pros, then when you look at their profile comments, they are the same ones trying to pick up a pair of Pro shocks...

I hope you're able to enjoy your thread like you are wanting to @RTweet . I totally understand your reasoning: every other sub-category has thread; why would Pro owners not be able to?

Fellow Oregonian! Hey, I really appreciate this and the validation of what this thread was supposed to be vs what it has turned into at times. Obviously, most non-pro owners wouldn't admit feeling less than, and many probably don't on a personal level. We all invested a lot of hard-earned money into these trucks, and consumerism/marketing has socialized us to see more expensive=more better (personally and materially), which is sometimes the case when it comes to material goods (woodworking tools for sure). That sunk cost fallacy, confirmation bias, and cognitive dissonance plays a massive role in all of this. As the more reasonable posters have said, however, it all comes down to personal preferences and we should never have to justify what makes us happy, nor ridicule someone else for what makes them happy if it isn't hurting anyone. The funny thing is, symbol or not, it's certainly not proof that someone is more successful. A lot of people go into significant debt with these things, lease, or get a killer trade in to afford it. Few people on TW are actually smart with their money, except maybe those on the thread about fully stock tacomas!

Sadly, we aren't supposed to talk about politics or other hot topics, yet we still fight about dumb shit.

they’re better than nothing, but I wouldn’t get all excited over them. Oh… and they sell them individually so make sure you buy two and don’t end up having to pay for shipping twice like some dummies

 

Haha, and I would have, so thanks! They look good and like they'll work with what we've got. They are going for between 30-40 now, so maybe not worth it? Not sure why I care, other than it seeming redundant, but can the rigid be pulled off the cover?
