Gas yard tools

Echo is my go to brand for weed eaters, blowers, etc. Stihl for chainsaws can't be beat. Honda is also great. I have one right now, lol You can't go wrong with those three brands. I've worked on them all & use them sometimes twelve hours a day. Good stuff

 

Stihl all the way. I've had the BG50 blower for I think 5 to 7 years. It starts everytime in the dead of winter or hottest summer day. I bought it for $150+ and have done absolutely nothing to it but put fuel in and tune it. That includes no spark plugs, air filters, or fuel filters. I do mowing in the summer for people (I mowed for 8 people last summer alone) and I estimate I've used it for 200+ hours easily with no failures. I pulled the plug and it still has a proper gap and I took off the muffler and have no scarring on the cylinder wall.

I have the KM-56RC with the straight shaft weed whacker attachment which I've had for 3 or 4 years and same thing. No maintenance what so ever and still starts every time. Probably 150+ hours on it and still starts with 3 or 4 pulls. I like the Kombi system because I can get different attachments to make it into whatever piece of equipment I need. My only complaint is the fuel tank capacity could be better but I'm using it more than the normal homeowner would.

I mow at my grandmother's and she wanted a good weed whacker at her house that would last with minimal maintenance so I got her the FS-38 and it's been rock solid. It really needs time to warm up before it works good.

My father bought a MS 170 4 years ago and we've cut oak, locust, maple, and more with it. Locust is a pretty tough wood and it cut 1'+ diameter logs with no issues. Again no maintenance (chain has been sharpened multiple times) and starts with 3 pulls though it doesnt have a ton of hours on it.

For all my equipment and families equipment we use premium 10% ethanol pump gas with the Stihl grey 2 stroke oil.

I work for a municipality and we use Stihl. They are abused just about everyday in the summer and start everytime and run pretty much flawlessly.

The nice thing about Stihl is pretty much any place that sells them will service them so if you have issues they can get worked on by people who know how to.

 

Only gas thing I have is my lawn mower. I don’t think I could ever get an electric one (stupid California).

My Echo ES210 blower stopped working all of a sudden this weekend in the middle of blowing off the driveway, so i wanted to get a feel for what is out there. its around 15 years old (bought used and owned for 8 years)

seems that either Stihl or Echo are the way to go for new gas powered tools

 

Do you have DeWalt drills or tools? I would also recommend their hedge trimmer with a 5amp battery. Its built really well and the battery lasts a long time.

 

i have some old craftsman and stihl gas stuff. I also have dewalt tools, so I use the dewalt flexvolt outdoors equipment which over the years has basically replaced gas. Pretty much out of convenience.

Where I live the summers get 120 degree plus for considerably more than a 1/2 acre.

The battery stuff will be fine.

Agreed. I bought three of them when they went on sale for $85 at Home Depot last year. Gorilla carts for the win!

Both of those are also good. I had a 394XP which is slightly bigger than the one you posted and I was going to rebuild but sold it last year. I read on some forums that it was a legendary saw and some guys were running 36"+ bars on them.

I know many Bobcat skid steers use Kubota engines and run for a long time.

 

Husq mower.
Troybilt trimmer.
Cheapass Wen generator.
Even cheaper-ass HF woodchipper.

They all lasted without any issues because I take care to run them dry and change the oil/air filters every November.

I have had lots of good experience across multiple tools with a Brigg's and Stratton engine, I can easily recommend them.

No complaints from any of them really. Only brand I'd stay clear of is Ryobi personally. I had a trimmer and a blower and got about 5 seasons out of them before they quit.
