@uploadadventure or anyone else local going to Rigs and Coffee at Artemis? This saturday 10-2. I'm thinking about going, but hate going because it's mostly Jeep/LC dudes and no one talks to me

Thinking about hitting up some easy stuff around Mark Twain this Saturday if anyone wants to go?

I haven't the slightest clue where to go, but guess I'll get lost.

Probably stick pretty close to the campground area around Chadwick. It's only 30 min from the house. Yeah I thought about going, but I'd rather spend it outside doing something than walking around looking at stuff I can't afford

I plan to get to smorr around noon or or a bit after on sat to pickup a packet. This is officially a gmrs event but I am not sure what channel. I will scan the 2M bands as well.
This may be a good introduction to exploring the roads in the ozarks in your shiny new trucks. Willy nilly exploring in the mark twain may find you with a smashed rocker and a door that wont open, or at least gobs of pinstripes. Unlike out west, it rains here and jumanji happens.

Mixing the adoration for driving with a definitive test of exact route, the S2M Rally tests your abilities and encourages you to learn new skills. It's anything but a race for speed, however an exceptional and requesting occasion dependent on the components of headings, stowed away designated spots, time, and distance utilizing guides, compass, and a professionally created road-book to guide you through the experience.

What is it?

The S2M Overland Rally is a driving event / competition based on following a printed list of route instructions to stay on the correct course. The route is all public roads and all instructed speeds are at or below the posted speed limit. Each car has a driver and we strongly recommend a navigator who reads the instructions watching for landmarks and points of interest. Checkpoints along the route will be trivia, landmark identification and communication based so be sure to have your Midland Radio ready. The car that follows the course precisely and maintains the speeds most accurately will be closest to the calculated perfect times and will be the winners!

Prizes will be given out by Midland Radio after all rallybooks are received and graded -

Will it be fun?

Absolutely! The route takes you on some of the most scenic roads around southern Missouri and Springfield, MO. These roads are a mixture of gravel, paved, curvy, and mostly lightly traveled! The instructions will be very easy to follow. The actual driving time will be about 4 hours. All S2M registrants will get preferred parking at MOORE Expo.

Registration and fees

The fee to register for the S2M Overland Rally is $20 per vehicle and covers all passengers. Each vehicle will receive Midland radio rally navigation book, swag bag, commemorative patch, navigator support kit, vip parking. The rally is open to all vehicles.

Finally, rigs and coffee was a good time. I met some nice guys with nice trucks. I did have to make an effort to go talk to people though. No hand holding here. You just have to be kind of friendly.

 

It's cheap at $20 to participate. Too bad I'm just now finding out about it. I don't even have my GMRS in the truck yet.

 

I think you will be given a radio for the trail ride.

 

Still short notice and already made plans for tomorrow. Wonder if they'll do another rally next year?

 

Yeah, I understand. I was thinking of going on the Saturday morning trail run. But I don't know, I have a lot to do at home. I'm sure they will do something like it next year. If you haven't been to MOORE Expo and like overland and off-road stuff, you will really like it. Lots of really cool (and expensive) stuff!

The aftermath of this weekend. Hit up some trails with my Jeep buddies around Chadwick. Stopped by the Artemis after party for a bit. Chatted with a guy from Branson with a 2nd gen, if you are here sorry I had to roll out and nice meeting you!
