Thats the strangest looking oil smudge I've ever seen.
I figure no fresh oil means it needs topped off.

Oh yeah, another fine morning in the Ozarks. Flight down was great. 3 hours later heading home we got hammered. Heads hitting the roof and all.

Most people do not realize that NONE of the actual footage of "Ozark" WAS filmed in Missouri or Arkansas. There were a couple of aerial shots that were used in the "promo" scenes that ARE from "our" lake. These few seconds are definitely of the Lake of the Ozarks, as I have been going to that area for the last 65 years, and I know the area, including from the air. I am figuring here the producers did not spend a dime on those freebie air shots. The rest of the series was/is shot somewhere at a lake area in Georgia. The big giveaway is all of the pine trees -- nowhere near that many pines in the real Lake of the Ozarks area.
Oh and -- all Missourians are NOT dumb redneck hillbilly drug dealing/money-laundering half-wits!

Missing My Last Tacoma --- Had 11 Toyota trucks in the past and many other Toyota cars too.
...^^^... They filmed part of that movie in the old part of town in Buford, GA on Main Street (end of 2021 and thru March, 2022) ... they had that end of town tied up for several months doing a shoot here .... it's walking distance from my house and close to Lake Lanier.

It was cool to watch and they had maybe 6 BIG generator trucks suppling the power for the movie shoot and they had multiple Gwinnett County PD cars on station 24/7.

Buford is an unusual small town with the tax base from the largest shopping mall and shopping area in the SouthEast (Mall of Georgia & surrounding shopping areas) with super schools that teach STEM and as good as the private schools.

I lucked out and bought a new house here 17 months ago and it has appreciated over 50% (yes over 50%) in only 17 months because of the school system here. No room to build in this small city and the High School is nicer than most small colleges. I will probably sell at 24 months (no CapGains tax) and take the profit and move a few miles towards ATL.

They do a lot of movie shoots in this area.

FWIW ... Buford used to be the Leather Saddle, Bridle, Postal Bags, Baseballs, Baseball Gloves and etc. capitol of the USA ... Roy Rogers and most of the big cowboy stars had their saddles made here .. made by Bona Allen Company.

The Bona Allen Mansion (guy who owned the leather company) is at the other end of Main Street from the movie shoot area.

I eat breakfast with some of the older locals and they tell me Mr. Bona Allen was crippled most of his life and rode around in a little red wagon. He owned most of the city and kept it under his tight control .... and when he died the city began to flourish ... as the locals tell me.

Many cool Bona Allen Mansion pics below:

You want UGLY? Take a look at a Fairey Gannet. Brits and French flew them off carriers in the 60s and 70s. There's one on display at The Pima Air and Space Museum in Tucson.

Interesting Redbull Skydiving tidbit. I'm here on the central coast of CA and live a couple miles from a small, uncontrolled coastal airport L57, Oceano, CA I'm a 20 minute drive from Class D KSBP San Luis Obispo where I fly out of. Anyway...some Redbull sponsored Skydiver guy(s) has been testing a pretty wild development on a couple C182's for the last few months. I haven't gotten close to it yet but it's a parasol device that folds back under the fuselage during flight, behind the landing gear, and when they reach optimum altitude, this thing deploys forward creating this massive airbrake and the plane is able to dive slightly beyond 90 degrees from horizontal. The plane is damned near inverted and I've been watching this happen over my house for quite some time!

I'm finally seeing where they are going with this. They have 2 C182's configured this way. Just this morning, I heard their engines synced in unison so I went out with binos just to catch their act. They are both flying same speed and course about maybe 100 yards separating each. They deploy the parasol, go straight nose down and end up falling at the speed of a skydiver. Jumper bails from 1 plane and transitions across the gap and goes into the second plane. Not sure but I think today may be their first success. I watched a myriad of flights where the diver just can't seem to get into the second plane but today, they nailed it. They went back up to altitude which always seems to be about 8000'AGL, and they did it again but the second time, it looked like their timing wasn't quite right and no diver came out of the second.

They fly out of KSBP but often land and exercise out of the small L52 field since the skydivers that miss end up landing there. I'm going to see if I can catch some shots the next time I catch up with their L52 operations. I really want to see this parasol device. I wish I had some camera equipment to catch them mid-act but I don't. I also need to look up the guy that's connected. I traced the registration of 1 of the 182's to this guy that was Redbull sponsored a while back when first observing. Since they began, the planes have all been dolled up in Redbull livery and look pretty cool.

I'll see if I can post up more stuff as I find it in case someone might be interested.

I read something somewhere about them attempting a crew swap mid air, that might be what you are seeing

Some jumpers did this about 20 or 25 years ago. Somebody took a Stearman and installed a drogue chute. Stearman goes nose down, jumper tracks over to it and gets in the front cockpit. Motivated to stay away from the prop.

I just found that link and watched it. That's IT!

Crazy shit they're planning. Hulu can pound sand. I'll be watching it from my driveway!

That airbrake is interesting. I perceived it as a fabric device while at altitude. They're doing this from about 8k AGL now so from 14k, they should be golden.

In an interview, Luke Aiken, who planned this, cites that event as his motivation for doing this. The difference is both PILOTS will leave their planes empty and swap.

    Just the basics
I've got a new aviation related story. During a recent camping trip up to Owens Valley I was having lunch and two older gentlemen asked if they could sit at the table I was at. It was busy at Copper Top BBQ and I said of course.
To make a long story short, one of the older gentlemen is a plastic surgeon (my girlfriend has worked with many other surgeons this man trained) who flies all the aircraft at Lyon Aircraft Museum in Orange County and also showed me a home video taken at a dinner amongst friends, one of which was none other than Mr. Bob Hoover. The other gentleman used to play for the Pittsburgh Steelers and owns many Toyota Landcruisers. It was a pretty neat impromptu lunch meeting.
