I’ve been debating in getting these as well but as you mentioned, 2ND Gens don’t have the braces so the wings kind of looks out of place and i feel they need to connect to the cover somehow for rigidity and protection. Just looks odd with the space in between. @Talon2006 would it possible to extend the 2nd Gen covers to eliminate the wings?

That is basically what I did for the second gens. https://www.talonsgarage.com/_files/ugd/e80c86_358945c63a8c46d5b75f0dee0bdc800f.pdf

I have sold a few, but didn't get my install guide up fast enough so it was sort of a disaster. I am fairly sure the 4wd is still good to go, but am not sure if the 2wds have some variations across the years.

So the wings have 2 bolt in connection points on each end?

Do you know if you got a set of stainless steel bolts, or zinc coated steel bolts?

    I bought the security bolts.

Totally depends on how you feel about the area you live and travel around.

I'm in small town Dover, DE (also depends on your neighborhood) but travel to other more populated areas...Philly & Baltimore being the cities that worry me.

I think I have standard SS bolts, no coating.

Shoot me a email on the website and we can send you another stainless steel bolt if you want.

We are working on getting rid of the SS and switching over to a zinc coated steel bolt for this reason.

Agreed. During my install I managed to strip three or four of them while doing the final torque. I was able to get them out and just used the non-security ones that came with shield. Other than that I have no complaints about the install.

I've sent you an email. Definitely appreciate the continued support, wouldn't hesitate to order again, quality is great. Glad you're fixing the issue with the fasteners.

Is the intention of the included bolts to make it more theft resistant vs the existing ones? Or is additional bolt length also needed to accommodate the 1/4" plate thickness?

Just overthinking the install. Mine should be delivered tomorrow

It is mostly to be a little harder to steal, allen head vs regular hex head.

The OEM bolts are long enough to install the plate, but you need to be careful starting it. IIRC the OEM bolts are 30mm long and really 35mm long is what you need.

The main reason I include 40mm bolts, is I plan to offer a transfer case skid one day, and that is the longer bolts are needed for that setup.

The UPS driver was very concerned about the condition of the package, but everything seems to be okay so far. I'll know for sure once I install it. It's some beefy aluminum! Just a heads-up for future packaging.

Do these upper side pieces angle inwards or outwards?

    I'm guessing inwards, like this?

I did mine outwards with no issues.

Install was pretty easy, even with only one person. I greased the front driveshaft zircs first since they will be covered now. I replaced the hardware with longer metric bolts and brushed them with anti-seize so it will be easier to remove for future maintenance.

Thanks! I switched them to outwards, seeing it on the truck that does seem correct. I wish the install of this part was shown in the instructions.

I can sometimes send a package across the country and it will look perfect, and other times across the street and it will be obliterated! Glad you got everything.

    Outwards

They are in queue for updating. I am not much of an artist and outsource a few things and it has taken a bit of time to get it back.
