So I got my Tacoma TRD Sport on Oct 2020. Took for 1st scheduled service at 6 months and 2nd in Oct 2021 for the 12 month service. Just found out today when I called that they did the 1st service both times (truck was under 5k miles for 2nd service). This means I’ve had for 18 months and no oil change. I’ve only got 6,900 miles on it but concerned about my warranty and my engine. I’m going to speak w/ the service manager when I go in. Is this a major issue and anything I need to be asking??

Oil changes are relatively cheap and easy. I would just get it done and stop worrying about it.

Curious, what services did they perform then?

Tire rotation I assume. The 5k for mine was tire rotation and 10k was tire rotation and oil change. I reached the end of the 2 year limit before I hit 30k and had the 2nd oil change done early. Covid has reduced my mileage significantly.

Yep, they just did inspection and rotation twice. Will them not doing the oil change cause me any issues? Miles still very low but plan to keep truck a while and don’t want any surprises

It's full synthetic. Much more forgiving than your typical oil. But I'd still get it done sooner rather than later.

I would want the oil change, they did not perform the required service. I believe the the manual says 10k or 1 year. When I required my oil changed at 5k, they said sure, but it counts as your second toyo care service.

You're fine but do the oil change yourself immediately. Personally, I did my first at 1000 miles to eliminate the initial wear metals, another at the 5k mark just to get on a judicious 'every 5k' plan, and did my 3rd yesterday at about 9300, a little early but done. I also do my rotations at the same time.

I'm taking mine in for a 10k inspection just for the record at Toyota but will demand they not touch my wheels or my oil & filter. I'll do it again before my second freebie opportunity expires and that'll be all they see of my vehicle short of an issue for warranty, of which I have a 10/125k. That said, document the bajeezuz out of everything you do for warranty purposes. I started a binder for both my new Toyotas and everything I do goes into it, receipts, instructions from mods, everything.

I hate to go there but put a dab of paint on your drain plug where it interfaces the pan as well as your oil filter housing. That way it breaks the seal if they crack it open. There's a multitude of owners here that have had experiences where nothing gets done, filters are unchanged, or even left out. By missing necessary services already, I wouldn't put it past them to do something stupid again, at your ultimate expense, though.

I’m pretty sure they inspect the placement of the floor mats as well! I changed my oil at 6k and never been to the stealership for anything. Dont worry about damage. Change it now and at 10,000 20,000 etc. just like the manual says.

no you have nothing to worry about. The oil could probably hold up for 12k miles.... Dont worry about it. What I would worry about(but not related to your question) is if it was low on oil(as in minus a couple quarts), thats when you will have issues with premature wear.

I wonder what they would say if you went in at the 1000 miles and asked for the oil change to get out the break in oil. Will they do it or give you a hassle for the free oil change. This is something I've done with ever new car I've owned in 30 years.

If my Tacoma ever comes in its going to take awhile to get to 10k working from home. I might be spending my lunch driving in circles, lol.

I was in the same boat as the op, but i scheduled my last toyota care visit after 12 months to have my oil change and tire rotation from the 3rd one. Would of been around 17-18 months if going by their schedule. Right now i'm officially all through with toyota care.

The dealership I use knows that regardless of mileage the oil change should be done if it has been at least 12 months. For me I'm always under the mileage, but they did the oil change both times for my Highlander.

The manual recommends 5K oil changes for “severe” service. It’s up to you to determine what severe is, because it’s your truck. My dealer had no problem doing those 2 free oil changes whenever I wanted to do them. I got oil and filters at ~4600 and 9800 (12K now) and they wrote it up as doing my “10k service” at 5K, and “20K service” at 10K, and I just gave up my 5 & 15K services, which weren’t worth my time anyway, since they’re just tire rotations and visual checks. Like others said, just keep good records and receipts to show that you did what the manual says to do.

I ended up doing my own oil changes and only take the vehicle in for required mileage inspections. Part of the problem with my dealership is they don't have enough employees to service their vehicles. It take 3-6 months to get an appointment. The service manager told me they have a difficult time finding people to work. They interview 10 people and decide to hire a couple of people and none of them show up for work on the first day. I guess they apply, but have no intention of actually working. I could probably drive further away and find a better dealership, but not worth it to stay there half a day for an oil change and rotation.
