This is the shield that's on my 2013 DC that I recently purchased from a Toyota dealer. They install this shield on all their Tacoma's and tundra's due to being targeted multiple times with the catalytic theft.

I recently purchased a 2013 Double Cab, 4 cylinder at a local Toyota dealer and they made a point to mention that the Tacoma has CAT shield Protector installed by them as they install these on all their used tundras and Tacomas due to recent theft of CCs at their lot.

I don’t see how this plate is protecting my CC. The two smaller pieces on each side of the shield can easily be unbolted or slid to one side. I also don’t see how I can change my tranny fluid. I guess it’s a deterrent but doubt if it’s a good deterrent. Do the 4 cylinders have one or two CCs. This is all new to me which is why I am asking.

    thanks

I was thinking a 12v electric wire screen rigged up instead of a bolted on armor plate. Just for fun

This was a huge problem in my area ~10 years ago- then TN passed a law where the scrap buyer had to copy your ID, fingerprint you, etc. That mostly stopped it for years. Recently thefts started again- after a few weeks, they caught the thieves and also the guy at the scrap metal place that was buying them without going thru the ID and fingerprinting.

They are also making drugs from them. My wifes got stolen at the end of last year. The cops came and did a report. Ended up finding the guy. he admitted to using it for drugs. Its Called Bombe, it started in Africa and has made its way here. A lot of scrap yards arent taking them anymore.

    OP
One thing you can do is paint it yellow or orange with high temp paint. most scrap yards will alert authorities if they see one that is painted or Etched.

OR you could just delete it and dummy O2 sensors. Or just straight pipe that section.

Our neighbor had a Honda Element that got chopped. Took them less than two minutes from rolling up to driving away. I’m sure my lifted Tacoma or lifted Subaru would have been next if they didn’t get chased off.
I ordered this the next day for my pre runner Tacoma.

I went the cheap route. 50 bucks in material and its just a deterrent. Its hard to cut through cable with a sawsall. Also the smog tech said he has to be able to see the cc and see if its aftermarket. He has failed people here because its totally covered up.

That's good for keeping the grass off them if you park in the Battalion Chief's spot - the first flat grassy spot next to the road.

Hey guys, I just received my Cat Shield from Cat Security, for my 2006 Tacoma Pre-runner Extend Cab V6 2WD, and after doing my homework it was the only true shield for a 2WD. There are other companies that say theirs will fit on a 2WD and they will not. The major difference is the height level comparison of the area's where you attach the shield. The 4WD's transmission crossmember and front suspension are level or flat, so a completely flat cat shield for a 4WD is needed. The 2WD has a lower front suspension so a step down type of shield is needed along with a smaller area to bolt to the trans. crossmember. I wanted the thickest one available, 1/4", and I thought I found the company that could make them, Tacoma Cat Shield-.jpg Tacoma Shield-1.jpg but they stopped replying to my emails? The one I settled for is 1/8" which is still pretty thick. I will provide photo's of my progress and tools needed to complete the job. In the two photo's the shield with the letters "CCM" in the middle is for a 2WD and the other Car A More is for 4WD. Can you see the difference.

From what I can tell those plates from RCI are for 4WD. In the photo provided for 2WD you can see that the front suspension, top left side of photo, is lower than the transmission crossmember on the bottom of photo. That's something that is getting overlooked when some of these companies say there's will fit a 2WD. I paid $389 for the complete shield and hardware with free shipping. Tacoma Cat Shield-1.jpg

I was told that bending a 1/4" aluminum shield, 90 degrees to fit, isn't easy and sometimes impossible. Probably because not everyone has that type of heavy duty machine to bend it like skid plate companies. I needed to do something quick because the bullshit is getting out of control here in California. Now these assholes are using guns, while one guy is cutting the cats off the other is standing by with a gun in their hands. It won't be long before someone gets killed over a few lousy bucks.

An off duty cop was already killed last week because of this in Houston.
