Doing one of my favorite things -- working on old houses... Yeah, right.

    Today's quiz:
Found this item when tearing down the third and final ceiling - in the same room.

    KIMG2057.jpg

Looking up there were 12" square tiles, then Masonite and finally plaster and lathe. All separated by random furring strips and all water damaged.

Some blown in insulation, random plumbing junk, a paint tray, a beer bottle and mouse turds rounded out the adventure.

Another day, more carnage. First set of pics is from the baler on our loader, where the hydraulic cylinder mounts to control the clamp. It also took out the cylinder eye. A2F36E77-5DFF-49F4-B6A6-68E061281A6C.jpg0E210666-880A-4C09-8AC3-BFEA9EDA9737.jpg846ED909-A743-4DA1-9F1F-252EEC7AB788.jpg

And now we have the second big carnage. 2 3/16 shaft coupling got destroyed. Along with a cast sprocket. Not entirely sure how, but here we are. FBC553A6-EAFD-460C-BF1D-E8612A79BE82.jpg76D148B4-0B78-46E8-9A45-EC738BB3FFEA.jpg 634DA9A3-0624-4F3D-AB8D-1055A6FF2E4F.jpg
We took the clamp off the baler and they're running it like a set of forks now. And we had the coupler and sprocket replaced in a couple hours after getting a new coupler from 2 hours away.

I can agree with that. In fact I can pull up two instances of it in one picture! The chains on the bottom left are the remainder of an old section of chain that was replaced on one of our machines. It's a very odd metric size, and we can't get any unless we order 300 feet at a time. And we only use 50 feet total in the mill. So whenever one of the chains currently in use breaks, we scavenge the few remaining good links out of the old section (seen here.) Then to the right in the pic, is a cam gear for our bundle stacker. A roller load bearing runs along the side to "lift" the forks over a set of stops. Obviously there's a slight issue there... image.jpg

I bought those laminated scales from Etsy, I ain’t got time to make that stuff myself! I did cut, shape, and finish them though! I just started playing around with the epoxy.

Wasn’t sure how to fill the gap between the scales, so I bought some epoxy and some dye from the craft store.

Mystery ceiling find revealed, it is cast iron by the way - glad it didn't fall on my head.

Hanger for a old style wall hung sink. There was one of these in the house I grew up in, you had your choice hot or cold water, no middle ground.
