    Like, so many.
That was me. Took my boy to Oak Mt. just for a night. We hiked around and chilled at camp. It was too crowded and loud, to be honest. But Peavine Falls looked amazing and I got to see a wanna be Instagram influencer slip off a rock and fall in the water, so that was good.

Man wed love you to come out. We never make anyone do anything they don't want to do and all pitch in if you get in a bind. If anything just coming and having a good time is the best part about the rides in my opinion. I could care less if i tackle a difficult obstacle although its fun too when you do :)

    Good morning!

    From AlabamaWX

RADAR CHECK: As advertised, a large mass of rain and thunderstorms has pushed into Alabama this morning. There is no surface based instability over the northern half of the state, so for North Alabama the main concern will be heavy rain and possibly some small hail. The greater severe weather threat today will be over the southern counties, where stronger storms will be capable of producing large hail, damaging winds, and a few tornadoes.

The rain will end from northwest to southeast during the midday hours, and most of North/Central Alabama will be dry this afternoon and tonight with only isolated showers. Storms will persist across the southeast part of the state this afternoon, where the severe weather threat will continue. The high today will be in the low to mid 70s.

TOMORROW: A cold front will slice into Alabama, and will bring a line of showers and strong storms to the state during the afternoon and evening hours. While the deeper moisture will be well to the east, the air will become very unstable ahead of the front. SPC has defined an “enhanced risk” (level 3/5) for places like Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, Anniston, Gadsden, Huntsville, and Fort Payne… the rest of the state is in a “slight risk” (level 2/5).

Wind profiles are mainly unidirectional, so the main threat with the line of storms will come from large hail and damaging winds, but an isolated tornado can’t be totally ruled out. The line will pass through during the 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. time frame; any one spot will see rain for only an hour or so. The rain won’t be as widespread as this morning with the limited moisture.

Thursday and Friday will be dry with a big cooling trend… the high Thursday will be in the mid 60s, and on Friday most places across the northern half of the state won’t get out of the 50s with a very cool breeze.

LATE SEASON FROST/FREEZE THREAT: Lows will drop into the 30-38 degree range early Saturday morning over the northern half of Alabama with potential for frost in most places, and a freeze for colder spots. Sunday morning could be just a cold… growers need to monitor temperature forecasts this week. On the positive side, the weekend will feature lots of sunshine with a high in the mid 60s Saturday, and low to mid 70s Sunday.

NEXT WEEK: Global models are hinting some risk of showers for parts of North Alabama Monday night and Tuesday, but generally speaking much of next week looks dry for Alabama with a warming trend… we reach the low 80s by Wednesday. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

ON THIS DATE IN 1936: Approximately 454 people were killed in the second-deadliest tornado outbreak ever in U.S. More than 12 twisters struck Arkansas to South Carolina. An estimated F5 tornado cut a path 400 yards wide through the residential section of Tupelo, Mississippi. At least 216 people were killed, and 700 were injured. The tornado had a 15-mile long path and did $3 million in damage. One of the survivors in Tupelo was a baby of an economically strapped family who had an infant they’d recently named Elvis Aaron Presley. Gainesville, Georgia had at least 203 fatalities and 934 injuries from an estimated F4 tornado that occurred early the following morning.

In Alabama, four people were killed by a tornado in Red Bay (Franklin County) during this outbreak

ANOTHER ACTIVE DAY: The weather is quiet across Alabama early this morning, but showers and storms will form this afternoon ahead of a cold front, and those storms could be strong to severe. Unlikely yesterday, all of Alabama will have an unstable airmass in place this afternoon.

SPC has defined an “enhanced risk” (level 3/5) of severe thunderstorms for much of Central and East Alabama, with a “slight risk” (level 2/5) for the rest of the state.

The broad window for the stronger thunderstorms will come from about 12 noon to 9 p.m… with the activity forming initially over the western counties, followed by an eastward progression. The main threat will come from strong winds and hail; wind profiles aren’t really favorable for tornado development. Still, a brief tornado or two can’t be totally ruled out where small scale boundaries are involved.

Storms will end from northwest to southeast early tonight as the cold front pushes through. Another day to be weather aware, and pay attention to warnings if they are needed. These type days are very common around here in April.

Tomorrow and Friday will feature a significant cooling trend; with a partly sunny sky the high tomorrow will be in the mid 60s, followed by mid to upper 50s Friday. The northeast corner of the state could see a few showers Friday, but most of the state will be dry.

LATE SEASON FROST/FREEZE: We are forecasting lows well down in the 30s both Saturday and Sunday morning over the northern half of Alabama, with potential for widespread frost, and freezing temperatures for colder spots both mornings. Growers will need to monitor temperature forecasts; this type of cold snap is very common in early April, and the reason I always advise people to wait until April 15 to plant anything that might be harmed by frost or a freeze.

Otherwise, the weekend will feature a good supply of sunshine… the high Saturday will be in the 56-61 degree range, followed by low 70s Sunday as a warming trend begins.

NEXT WEEK: Forecast confidence is fairly low in the details, but the main threat of severe storms during the week will likely be well to the west of Alabama, across parts of Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Arkansas. We could see a few showers on a day or two, but no major rain events are expected thanks to an upper ridge over the region. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

ON THIS DATE IN 2007: In Cleveland, Ohio on the 6th to the 9th: The opening-season series between the Indians and Minnesota Twins is wiped out by a snowstorm and a cold snap. The Indians led 4-0 when their home opener Friday on the 6th was called off by umpires because of heavy snow. The grounds crew who tried to make the field playable with backpack blowers and brooms spent more time on the field than the players during nearly three hours of stoppages. About a foot of snow remained on the ground Monday afternoon the 9th

The Storm Prediction Center has just released a mesoscale discussion on the likelihood of a tornado watch being issued over the next few hours, as thunderstorms will develop in the area outlined and increase in coverage and intensity. Large hail, damaging winds, and tornadoes all appear possible with any storm that becomes severe. The probability of a watch being issued is at 80%. Here is the text from the SPC:

SUMMARY… Storms should increase in coverage and intensity this afternoon. Large hail, damaging winds, and tornadoes all appear possible. Watch issuance is likely.

DISCUSSION… Visible satellite imagery shows an outflow boundary/gravity wave extending from southern/central MS northeastward into middle TN, moving quickly east/southeastward across AL. Modest ascent associated with this boundary combined with filtered diurnal heating across AL will probably be sufficient to erode/overcome the low-level inversion shown on the 12Z observed sounding from BMX within the next couple of hours. A zone of differential heating acting as an effective warm front also extends from parts of central AL eastward across central GA. A related instability gradient is generally draped east-west across this area as well.

Storms should develop and increase in coverage along the outflow boundary across central AL by early afternoon (18-19Z), as lingering convective inhibition further erodes. Additional convection may also form and spread northeastward across parts of southern AL into central GA. This activity ahead of the outflow boundary should be tied more to modest low-level warm advection and ascent preceding a low-amplitude, southern-stream shortwave trough presently over southern LA/MS. Steep mid-level lapse rates noted on the 12Z soundings from LIX/TLH will overspread much of the surface warm sector. These lapse rates aloft combined with diurnal heating and rich low-level moisture will support moderate to strong instability, and MLCAPE of 2000-3000 J/kg appears likely by peak afternoon heating.

The region from central AL into central GA may have a relative minimum in mid-level flow, with stronger winds aloft remaining both to the north (primary upper low over the Midwest) and south (southern-stream shortwave trough). Regardless, around 25-40 kt of effective bulk shear should support a mixed storm mode, with both supercells and multicells possible. Large hail will be a concern with any discrete convection that forms initially. With time, one or more small bowing clusters may evolve and track eastward along/near the diffuse warm front across central GA. If this occurs, then damaging winds would likely become the main threat.

Finally, the overall tornado threat remains a bit uncertain, as a messy storm mode should exist. Still, enough low-level flow related to a 30-35 kt south-southwesterly low-level jet will be present to support updraft rotation and some threat for tornadoes. The best threat for embedded tornadoes with a bowing cluster may focus in central GA along the differential heating zone/warm front later this afternoon, where low-level shear should be locally enhanced
