well I say you get the Amazon special it was about 100 bucks at the time and it kick's all 4 seasons, small compact and i use this more about 1/2 and the smittybuilt rtt the other 1/2 of the time. Personally I've had all types of tents you never can have enough but the orange one is awesome...

If you going to be backpacking get any ground tent really, Walmart or CT tents on sale all the time. If you want premium get Gazelle but it comes with extra weight and only truck camping use.

I just got myself this one for backpacking and canoe camping. Couldn't find tent like this available here, so had to ship from Europe.

The inreach mini 2 has a little better battery life from what they are saying, it's the same battery but the processor is more efficient overall.
fuck it. buy once, cry once. seems like i can convert .GPX files and send it to the Garmin to leave me pack dots to follow.

How is it with packing and unpacking? it's a good use of space (i've become more envious of the 6ft box recently) but leaving the totes/ boxes out in the mud for the night and shoving them back into the back isn't an issue? I know you run the buddy heater and you've said it works well.

can't go wrong with multiple sleeping options! how long have you had the amazoom special tent? I've seen various types be absolute junk and you might have found the unicorn that is actually good.

I'm going to Tuk, and nothing is stopping me. The only difference is depending if i get picked, i would be getting paid to be work up there :bananadance:

I just wanted the GPS/sat phone is for the travel up there as a stepping stone as i'll just say in Canaderp and might use part of the TCAT.

I like my FJR1300 a lot but cant seem ruining a great day riding with sleeping on the ground. Maybe being 50+ has something to do with it.

When I last ground camped with a truck was about 4 years ago but I used a ~6 year old Walmart tent which has held up surprisingly well. Still waterproof and roomy.
When I'm solo on a bike, it's this, which isn't roomy and only purpose is to sleep.

All other times, it's in the truck bed with softopper

CT and Wal-Mart ground tents are like 31" tires. No one wants to admit it but they do work just fine.

I wouldn't trust it with my life in a remote solo adventure but for a weekend with backup options it's sufficient.

I hadn't been camping in 30 years, but decided to go to VMUTS with some friends. I didn't think I'd be camping very often at all so I bought the cheapest tent I could from Wal-Mart (3 person for $35). It worked fine, stayed dry, easy to set up and pack up. I've since used it at Ardbeg, and Rays Place and one or two other trips. I found that the main issue with the tent was getting my old ass in and out of it. I'm too old to be crawling in and out of a tent. So this year I bought a Gazelle T3x (lightly used for a good price).

It packs up to about the same size as Walmart tents and weighs 2-3 lbs. I occasionally put it in the back of the access cab.

For clearing the bed at the camp site, it's the same deal as sleeping in a soft topper or hard shell. I carry a Dollarama broom head and wiping rag. There is a lot more headroom than a topper - I can stand up in the tent while hunched over.
It'll work if you fold up the tonneau to the headboard but not up against the cab. I used mine with the Extang SolidFold and Extang Encore. The folded tonneau becomes a shelf and doesn't block the zippered vent windows:
