Well, I guess this might explain the creaking soft spot and broken tiles upstairs. The heating guy just chopped the joist that was in his way.



This house is old enough that central heating was added after it was built.

I really don't like working on houses much.

 

Easy fix.

 

Bridge between the two neighboring joists with double 2x6(?) with joist hangers and joist hanger the cut joist onto that.

True, but if you find enough things that need an easy fixes it add up to a whole pile of work.

I'm thankful that I finished pulling all 3 layers of ceiling in this room down -- that sucked.

I know that all too well. By time i get one project done, wife wants 3 others done..

 

That is the plan, even found the joist hangers in the garage.

More likely covering up damage from the bathroom overhead over the years.

The thing that perplexed me is that the last coat of paint on the original plaster ceiling was a dark brown.

This was from back in the days of a single 60 watt bulb in the center of the room -- must have been like a cave.

 

Oh, I think we all know the answer to that...
