Both. As in obviously URD's pulleys no longer work. But can you get a different pulley from someone else like Pulley Boys.

 

I talked to Pulley Boys yesterday. They do not have one for the 5VZ-FE MP62. They do make a press on for the Nissan MP62, but its a 6 rib design and may or may not be positioned correctly. Also, their 'small' pulley is 2.32", just a tad smaller than what I have now.

As far as I've been able to determine so far, no one is making undersized pulleys for this application.

 

So the new superchargers can't accommodate a smaller pulley? Am I understanding that? That's odd.

 

What? They should make em down to 1.8' I thought. Or maybe I'm thinking of a different company.

You may have thought otherwise, but we were only talking about press on pulleys with regard to what Pulley Boys had to offer.

 

According to Gadget, Magnuson changed the design to a press on pulley when they're supply of the traditional keyed shafts ran out. Again, according to Gadget, this was a temporary situation and only a small number of superchargers were produced with the press on pulleys. The mfg date on mine is April 17, 2021.

I wouldn't think modifying the correct dia pulley would be very difficult for a machine shop to accomplish assuming the ID isn't too large already.

 

I spoke with Magnuson about this yesterday. Basically, they took no responsibility for this. The guy I spoke with said that URD must have ordered it wrong. Then he asked why I wanted to change the pulley. I told him I wanted to run a smaller pulley and there weren't any 2.2" (or 2.1, 2.0 or 1.8s either) in the press on design. He then went into this spiel about how they only sell CARB legal products and that undersized pulleys are illegal.

This whole change in pulley design without a disclaimer is BS. Then to act like it's not their fault or problem is ridiculous.

Not being a machinist myself, it is difficult to say whether or not it could be made to work. When I spoke with Gadget, he suggested it as an option. Zane said pretty much the same thing. But since it would be a custom job, it could be expensive for a one time deal.

The other choice is to swap to the original style nose and keyed shaft.

Purchase was from URD and was a drop ship direct from magnuson.

Yeah magnuson's response was total BS and made no sense. The magnuson rep wanted me to take this up with Gadget. When I told him I had already spoken with Gadget and was how I found this was caused by a change in design by magnuson due to parts supply shortage. The rep then got all defensive and said it was an ordering issue and that Gadget would have to address this through his own magnuson rep.

I have since found out that this has been a known issue for a little while. I am not the first one on TW to get one of these superchargers and then discover this change and ask Gadget and magnuson about a solution.

 

Well that's just bizarre.

I can understand the legality of them turning a blind eye to the smaller pulley. URD though should have been involved since you bought the s/c and an incompatible pulley for it through them. Maybe buy on of the s/c for sale on the forums and swap the snouts and resell it

 

Is too expensive to have a machine shop mill in a keyway on the shaft? Would seem like an easy job for any machinist. Or are there different diameters at play as well?

 

I can't give you numbers, but it's my understanding that the shaft sizes are different. That the press on shaft is a larger diameter. This also means the shafts are not interchangeable. For me (or anyone else with one of this version SC) to have a keyed shaft will require a nose swap as well.

Gadget did ask if I wanted to return the 2.2 pulley and offered an RMA number.

Did he offer an rma on the blower? Haha cause I'd be like take this shit back and give me a better one.

Forgot Mike, how did the order of bolts go for you during install? Any issue? Follow Magnusons order or the one I used?

 

I don't really know what your order was so hard to say really. What I do know is that we did now have any issues.
