I just ordered new KYB top hats for installing a new set of stock bilsteins. Do I get all the hardware ie. bushings washers etc. I need to replace them without reusing hardware? Do thy include a new top shock nut or do I reuse my original? Thanks

The top shock nut should come with the shocks. The hats should come with the top hat nuts, washers (for shaft) and bushings.

I just bought new KYBs and they had all the hardware including the top nut.

    Edit: nope, nope they didn’t.

Hook78, when you say KYB's are you talking the top hats or shocks? I couldn't find the shock nut in my top hat kit. Thanks guys

Now you’re making me question my memory and I’m not 100% sure if the new top nut came with the 6112’s, the KYB’s, or both. But I have this distinct memory of opening up the KYBs and being shocked that the top nut was in there. Hang on, I’ll go check my leftover hardware, if I have two top nuts left that means they came with both the KYBs and the coilovers.

I totally have to correct myself, sorry OP. The top nut did NOT come with the KYBs. What I was remembering was being surprised that both the 6112’s and the KYBs came with the washers and bushings, so I had duplicates of those. The only nuts the KYBs come with are to secure the coilover to the shock mount.

Ok are the shock nuts something special? I'm not sure I can reuse my original depending on how rusted they are so I would rather have new ones ready to go on. The new shocks did not come with them (they were bought off a member here and I knew they were not being supplied). Are they a locking nut with fixed washer? Do you know the size? Thanks

Just call Bilstein, I’m betting they will send you the hardware, possibly for free.

I had to talk to Bilstein about something else, so I asked about the hardware for you. Tech support said you can buy them at the hardware store so there’s nothing special. They are just standard nylon lock nuts. Recommend you call them and they can give you the spec: (800) 537-1085.

Might also be available on their website on the product page.

Just got off the phone with bilstein and the guy said it is proprietary to toyota and I would need to go back to toyota to get them. I guess I will start searching the toyota dealers.

That’s a very weird response. What exactly is proprietary? Bilstein provides the nut with coilovers so how is it. Proprietary nut? Plus Bilstein customer service, at least the guy I talked to, he told me they would be happy to provide the nut dimensions if I knew which shocks. Sometimes you get a bad egg calling customer service.

This guy asked me the P/N and I gave him what was stamped on the shock and he said it was a factory OEM shock made for toyota. I bought these off a guy on this forum who gets them from the dealership new when they are removed to upgrade suspension (I guess).

Ahhh ok. Hopefully they’re not too expensive from the dealership. But at least you know you can get them there.

Yep, about 1.20 each on line but the shipping is a killer. No toyota dealerships near me, closest is 40 miles away.
