I was quoted 873 at discount tire for the set of cooper atp2 plus a 70 mail in rebate. So basically 800 ( no Insurance). 265 70 16 is that a good deal. My SR5 came with 245 75 16. 5k miles on my truck.

    Oh look, another mod....
My local Discount Tire say's they'll do it for $816, I don't think that includes sales tax. So yeah, you're getting a good deal.

All I need now is how to tell my wife that my truck that I just purchased needs new tires.

    OP, why go with 265/70r16?

If you're going to do that you could just wait for a set of Off-road or Sport take-offs and probably get an extra set of wheels and tires for that money.

Many that are upgrading from 245/75 go to 265/75.

I would like to go 265/76/16 just not sure I’m ok with loosing a lot of mpgs since my daily commute is about 80 miles. Plus I’ve read some experience rubbing ( could be mud flaps only) and the reasons for no take offs is that I want an aggresive white letter tire for my white taco.

I can respect that (well.. all but the white lettering part.. jk :D.)

It's difficult to beat the stock SR/SR5 tires for MPGs.. I took a hit of something like 1.5~2 mpg under various driving conditions moving to a 265/75/16 AT tire with a weight of 38 lbs. You would not rub with 265/75 even when fully stuffed. I'm fairly convinced the weight is as big or bigger a challenge for our trucks as the tire diameter when moving up in size due to the relatively low torque output in the lower RPM range.

You should be good with that size tire and not rub. The only possible rubbing I could see would be the mud flaps fully locked while off roading.

I think the absolute best value tire is the Firestone LE2 or LE3. I used them on all my vehicles and what is funny I did that before I got my 2022 Taco delivered 2 weeks ago and guess which tires it came with? I was so pleased to see that.

I'm running similar tires in 265/75R16. They are actually quite heavy and have a little hum on the highway. I'd suggest the standard load 265/70R16 if you do 80 miles a day. I only do 30-40 and they are a little taxing.

If you run any trails or gravel road, 100% get the 10 ply bigger tire.

Sell the old ones and lie about both the cost of the new ones and the price received for the old. Hint to a profit and take her out for dinner and drinks. Then bang her big time and she’ll forgive you for lying. Works every time.

Heh... 10 ply.. of course they're quite heavy and you'll get shaitty MPGs. I disagree with this. I run some trails and gravel roads and run lightweight standard load tires. I have a spare tire if I need it.

Also my 265/75r16 ATs have no hum on the highway (and I'm sensitive to clicks, rattles and any un-necessary irritating noise.. hell I'll completely interrupt a conference call with half the company and President if some jack-a-lope is making clicking noises during a large conference call.)

I chewed up my last set of SL all terrains on gravel roads, I barely got 30,000 miles on them before they were at 5-6/32nds. See it a lot on customers trucks too with the standard tires.

I have a 2020 SR5 2wd and upgraded from the stock 245 to Falken Wildpeak AT3W 265/75r16 on the stock SR5 wheels and have not had any rubbing but I did see a loss of about 2-2.2 mpg on my same daily commute. Got them in the least load rating I could for as light as possible I think it was 116t? Had 25k on stock tires and have done 1.5k on new tires so mpg drop is accurate.
If going for 265/70r16 then I would consider buying a new set of off-road takeoffs I’ve seen basically brand new wheels and tires go for less than $800 around me and they sell sidewall stickers for tires to get the “white lettering look” if that’s what you’re into. Had them on my old Subaru Sti and then lasted over 3 years.
