Not so bad. Built a fish tank stand. Tightened up an antenna in the backyard. Making a list of things I need to do before the NE qso party.

It's like an HF radio "contest". Think battleship with radios and points. Nationwide lol

    Newbie in need of advice…

I’m not ready to drill a hole in the roof yet but I want a little more range out of my mobile UHF/VHF setup. I’m debating two setups.

    1. Something mag mount

    2. 95315F44-B54F-4B72-A0D8-B71FCB2189B8.jpg

Would the mag mount be better? I have a Prinsu roof rack already and think that #2 looks super clean but I’m not sure if it is good enough.

did you make that.. if so what about having four points of contact hitting both rail slots? I like that clean look I’m going magnet so I can swap to work truck when ever I need to..

Net105 and Net40 have been bust for me lately. I like HF packet but when I can't reach stations I normally have QSOs with, I feel like something is wrong with my antennas.

Waiting for the QDX to become available again. Any day now.

Sending out APRS messages from time to time to see if someone responds.

    Built a 6-element wire yagi for 2m.

Tried operating airborne mobile with a 2m bazooka and 40m-10m EFHW. Too much noise on the mic and I was even using my Lightspeed headset. Still made 2 contacts. One local (both 40m and 2m), one in Canada. It was fun trailing 63' of wire behind the 120 though.

    Just general ham shenanigans.

Pretty minimal right now. 40m OCF halwave at 60', a 80m off halfwave set up low for NVIS and is running east to west to help get the southern states and SA.

I've got my EFHW with a 20m and 40m length wire for my portable deployments. The 20m wire Actually ends up just being set up as a vertical but can run 10m without a tuner and actually has a decent take off angle when ran vertical. Got me Tokyo from near Boston last year.

And then I've got my Atas-120 on my truck. Which I really have no complaints about.

We might be looking at new house in the future and then I'll look into a 20-17-15-10 beam. I'll work it into the mortgage.

That's pretty cool. Just need a space helmet to keep that sound out! Hahaa.or is it possible to run negative gain? Just have to swallow the mic and really speak from your soul

A lot more than I have. 80m dipole about 60' at feed with 600 ohm. That's it. I had more, but some get sold. Others just sit in the yard with the ladders.

I have a SilvertipAnt@Protonmail.com 20m Sota antenna for my KX3. Currently have to find a new base station HF. Yaesu FTDX-101D is my next investment, then a fancy Magnetic Loop.

I turned the gain down to 10 and was sorta legible. Then at 5 I was told it was worse. ALC is full blast all the time. Not really sure what to do about it. My aviation handheld paired with my headset does fine with the noisy atmosphere. Maybe I can find a better noise canceling circuit to put inline with the mic to the radio or simply attenuate it before it hits the radio somehow. I was feeding it through the FT-857D data port but I could also try using the mic port. I'll just loose all the cool DTMF mic stuff unless I make a fancy switch box to select the correct mic input and plug both the aviation headset and the hand mic in at the same time. I have bigger fish on the griddle right now though. Building fence to keep the unruly trespassing cows out. Fixing airplanes, fixing helicopters, flying planes, planting garden, running irrigation, etc. etc.

    Feels like spring!

fairly new ham here. KC1WTR. Got my tech in feb, general 3 weeks later. Currently running a Yaesu 991a with a G5RV antenna. Still figuring things out. Have an active local club and a good friend, both of which have been a tremendous help for me!
