Hello all, I’m having a difficult time getting a confirmation on the following. I just purchased a 2022 Tacoma SR 4WD. I would like to buy some 2022 17’ TRD Sport Wheels and Tires (OEM take offs) and put them on my 2022 Tacoma SR. Can I do this without any issues or will I need a small lift kit?

My tire size is 245/75/16. The take offs I would like to replace them with are 265/65/17

    Thanks, Chris

Yes, it will fit with no issues and no modifications are necessary. I recommend switching TPMS sensors from the old wheels and putting it on the new set. An alignment afterwards is recommended. Don't forget the lug nuts, the lug nuts for the steelies are different.

Oh my bad on that, didn't realize they both have different sensors. Nice catch!

Awesome to hear! Toyota Dealership told me different, but the service manager was new. So if I’m understanding correctly, being the seller of the take offs is not giving me the TPMS from the wheels and tires I’m buying from him, I should not use my current TPMS because their steelies, and I should purchase new TPMS for my new wheels because they are aluminum?

Basically, the Toyota guy at the dealership said it wouldn’t work because my SR model had different suspension and springs than the Sport model. That was his reasoning.

    Thanks for all the responses!

The general rule with wheels is that OEM wheels of different trims within the same model are interchangeable because car makers don't want to introduce extra complexity in manufacturing if they end up having to redo the alignment.
Also OEM tires of different sizes of a particular model tend to have almost the same circumference or within 1% difference , so that the speedometer programming is the same for all trims, reducing complexity.

What the dealership told you regarding the wheels was simply not true. Theoretically, lug pattern is the only factor that'd make certain wheels not work on certain vehicles and all Tacomas share the same lug pattern

I cannot tell you how much I appreciate the response! He had me convinced not to buy the 17’s and I wasn’t happy. Thanks a million!

Welcome to the forum :hattip: congratulations on the new truck!

The tires are just about identical diameter, just a bit wider. See the image below. The wheels bolt right on, no clearance or alignment issues. You need aluminum wheel lug nuts and TPM sensors.

Buy the lug nuts from Toyota but get the TPM sensors and work done at an actual independent tire shop, this is what they do every day.
Stay away from the chains like Firestone, etc unless you have a very good history with them.

The dealership was probably concerned it wouldn't fit because their system says the base model SR Tacomas come with 245 size tires. Discount tires computer system says the same thing too but any of the TRD sport or TRD off-road wheels with 265 tires will fit the SR's stock suspension. I have an SR and had the wheels upgraded to SR5 aluminum alloys and changed the tires to 265 with no issues in the last 4 years. I just had the alignment redone because I was increasing the tire size.

you're welcome and soon you'll find out that most of TW members run non-OEM wheel and tire sizes, much wider, more poking out, bigger diameter and all and some manage to fit on stock condition, others need to chop, trim the body mount parts. just be prepared to:spending:
