2022 TRD Sport Premium Ride?

Hello,

I would appreciate input on the comfort and ride on the 3rd gen's Sport Package.
I have a 2018 TRD OR 6M I am pondering to upgrade to a 2022 DC SB 6M Sport; however, I cannot test drive one as everyone knows no inventory.

My TRD OR is very smooth riding on the highways and sucks up the road pretty well imo. Not really an off-roader but I hear the locker is a big help if stuck in a hole or something. The Sport does not have one as standard eq.

I have been reading here the ride for the Sport is harsher/firmer..
Would I be able to by some Bilstiens to give the Sport a similar ride to the OR?
Are the springs the same on the Sport as the Off Road?

Bit stiffer, but it's not like it's an entirely different truck.

 

Hello OP, I just bought a TRD Sport 4x4 premium loaded up with options last Friday. I originally was going to buy an OR, but this sport was on the way already for dealer allocation and less of a wait for me since I was without a vehicle. I also was unable to test drive before purchase. My previous frame of reference with more recent trucks I have owned was a 2006 DCSB TRD OR and a 2020 Silverado LTZ with 6.2. I have only about 300 miles on the new truck but the ride is very impressive in my opinion. I would describe it controlled and firm, not harsh at all, very composed and planted on bad roads, pot holes, etc. I am very impressed with it so far. It came with the Toyo A30 (I think) tires. I was a little concerned about the comments on the sport having a harsh ride, but I am not experiencing this at all. Hope this helps

 

Sport is a little more firm than the OR. I like they way it feels on the highway and feel a little more in control at higher speeds with the response I get back from the truck. Saying that, I do feel a but more bump when driving on roads that are not smooth but I'm okay with that. My Tundra is smooth even as an SR5 but does have some body roll on the highway, might add a sway bar at some point.

 

If ride quality is your biggest concern, buy a Cadillac.

 

Pretty legitimate questions in comparing his previous OR to a new sport. Guess everyone asking about the fuel mileage should go leave deposits on Prius and Tesla too?

I agree with the others. Firm but comfortable. I would not call it harsh at all. I really like mine.

 

Hello and Thanks for the feedback. Now I have the decision of if I need the 4 door or if the AC would suffice. I do like the added features of the Sport Package but it also comes at a cost. As always...

Sport is former than offroad. I have had both.

 

The look of the Sport got me to stop and check it out -- the suspension sold me.

Driving is about the only thing I do just for enjoyment anymore. Every time I get in the truck it says "game on, lets roll" -- some folks may consider the ride harsh, hard or busy, I call it engaging, you know you are doing something.

Hours into a road trip I'm still on my game, interested and enjoying myself. That was the whole point of buying the truck. It is a pavement princess by the way.

Lets be realistic here -- I'm well aware it isn't a sports car but perhaps a bit closer to a sports car than the average mid size truck.

Access cab vs Double cab: You wear the Access cab like a favorite denim jacket, snuggle down in there, just you and a pretty girl riding shotgun.

 

My OffRoad bounces along but I love it. Feels like much older truck. Bounce vs firm. I like bounce...

 

Picked up a TRD Sport DCSB 4x4 in Dec 2021... was a little nervous about the same thing, but I am very happy with it. I live in the midwest and our roads are potholed to hell, and no complaints here. The Toyo tires arent great IMO... swapped them out for some Falken Wild Peak AT3s. We get a lot of snow in the winter and I wanted something better. That softened up the ride a tad. Really nice combo and has been great on standard highway driving and snow.

I have had my Sport for 4 ½ years. I have 64,000 kms of daily driving on it. I have driven the truck on daily commutes to highway trips to Oregon. The suspension is very firm. Definitely a 'Sport' type of suspension. Great for corners and spirited driving. There are times though, that is felt like the shocks were solid, no give. It would hit a pothole and the truck would get jittery. I found the rebound and recovery of bigger bumps was overly firm at times.

I recently installed an Eibach Pro-Truck Stage 2 lift kit in the truck. The first bump is still firm but the rebound and recovery is now so much better and far more composed. The truck feels so much better and planted but still feels sporty. I am happy with the change.

 

Digging up a couple month old thread but do you have any pic of the sport with the lift? Just picked up a 2022 Sport DC MT and am thinking about a lift in the future.
