@High_Desert_Rex That's what's up! Nice fatty. Last summer I bought a BMC Two Stroke - One and have been thinking "Man I should have bought a fat bike." Don't get me wrong, the BMC is the nicest and lightest bike I have ever owned but there is something about trail riding on a fatty. Like riding on a cloud. How do you like it?

    BLM, baby!

Though there is a reason why these vast desert tracts in the west are controlled by the Bureau of Land Management: no water, limited mineral or natural resource value, not scenic enough to be National Parks, and hot as hell in the summer.

    It's the Wild West.

Rainbow Basin near Barstow, CA. It's like the Lunar Rock Tacoma has found it native habitat.

Opal Mountain Road to Black Canyon Road near Barstow, CA. It's a scenic drive through sandy trails, various badlands, and finally in a wash that cuts through volcanic escarpments then across a dry lake bed.

Yeah, that's it. We had considered an out-and-back, but took Black Canyon Road on the out.

The fastest path back to the highway took us across Lake Harper, which was bone dry and had a dust (salt?) devil we drove through.

i dont know the exact spot without digging up super old GPS tracks but there is a spot out there we nick named emerald hills cause all the hills are green from copper in the ground. was great ridgeline and canyon slot type stuff that was great for dirtbikes. there is also petroglyphs from the indians out there. So many places i could go on and on :p love it out there and its been years so i miss it.

Any interesting critters? I've seen 2 rattlers already this year, a few chuckwallas, and some desert iguanas... burrowing owls etc.
Need to get back up there and shoot some images of the wild Mustangs with my new D7200 and Sigma 100-400 lens.
