Stack the tongue. You will only lose 10" of tongue length.

All my trailers with drop spindle axles are done this way.

It's on Timbrens, and they are where they have to be, I can't add height with them. If I stack the tongue I only gain 2.5", I want to gain 5.5" at least, if I could get the whole 8" I'd prefer that.

That tongue has been removed and I got some 2.5" x .325" to weld in

Then just buy a piece of 6" tube. And put it between the 2 2" younger sections.

    I suppose a 2.5"x5" would work, hmm

What about the 2.5x5” your thinking as subframe to the frame. Tie in with gussets and beef it up. Remount your timbres axles to the subframe..

That's a lot of unnecessary work imo. I don't want the trailer to be higher as well, at that rate it'll be even with my tailgate by the time I'm finished. I can't even image how expensive all that tube would be either.

I’m all about unnecessary work but I want the best results.
I’m building a camp trailer now and made the “bed” 4’x6’ exactly. Ended up buying a quad after building the frame and found the quad to be 48” wide exactly. I want the option to to camp with it but with 1.5” sidewall framing I was 3” short on fitting it in the trailer. Best I could think to resolve the issue was sub frame 1.5” square toob on both sides of the trailer to get that 3” back and frame the sidewalls on the subframe. It worked. Alot of extra work and a little more material (bout $50) but it solved my problem. And I’m going for the “bulletproof build” as well. Imo strength of the trailer tongue should be solid and run throughout the trailer. Fucking with the tongue is getting away from the bullet proof build.

I like the way you think. I definitely considered bigger tires, but then the truck would need them too, defeating the point

Just did the last bit of paint for the trim. Project complete! Really happy with how it turned out.

Made some wall mounts for a little roof over my new wood rack. I have two rows of 1" x 2" wood strips to go between them. Also have my roofing cut. It is some of the leftover siding from the garage, so it will blend in well.

Just waiting on the paint to dry on the wood strips. Hopefully have time to finish it tomorrow.

Probably too late for the birthday, but for other times when you want to make something gardeny for grammy, you could make some garden animals from old yard tools and such.

    Ideas like these.
