I've got the Meso Stage-1 setup and the reverse lights were not enough to change the ISO settings. The difference I think is where the light is going. The reverse lights are lighting up what you want to see. The tag lights are shining directly at the camera. Big difference, both in direction and amount of light hitting the CMOS sensor.

See, you're focusing too much on the plate lights. You're missing the point as evidenced with that first sentence of yours.
In my truck there is great difference in the camera view with the light switch on or off --- in bright day light and in dark of night --- regardless of the plate lights (covered or bare).
So the harness should also show you that difference; in a perfect world of course.

Don't get me wrong. I am not shooting down the harness, the inventor, nor those who use it!
We all love to mod our trucks! I was just really curious in it's working specifications (the harness).

I'll have to snag my wife's mirror and experiment. You kinda skipped over the point "something reflective behind them when backing up" shining directly into the sensor just as the tag lights do.
What you said would hold true out in the woods or open field. I thought the same so that's why I named objects being behind the truck.

Got my oil changed, front dif oil changed and transfer case oil changed. Did my rear dif about 1,500 miles ago so I’m all fresh with the exception of my transmission. Gotta get motivated to do that. Transfer case looked a little dark (like a honey color), front dif was probably never done (48,000 miles bought at 44,000) and looked like shit, and the rear dif looked brand new but since I did rear dif breather mod I said F it may as well.

So that would not have any effect on the camera setting. The camera still sees the headlight switch in the "on" position. That answers my question. (I mean without actual side-by-side playing around evidence. Good enough for me.)

    Thank You!

All the harness does is disable the plate lights.

There is no difference on my vehicle (with the harness, in day or night) if the headlights are turned on or off.

Without the harness, even in daylight, the plate lights are going to shine on the camera and change the clarity if you turn on the headlights.

After a few trips on the trail and banging up my factory OffRoad skids it was time to buy some steel plates.

I did some research, thanks to the people of TW and I chose the 3/16 steel skid plate from RCI.

Filled up the gas tank at Costco 4.29 for regular, then took it to the dealer to special order a couple of interior plastic retainer clips. I saw this 2022 2WD TRD sport with 285/70/17 Toyo at3's, icon wheels, cheap spacer lift, n fab steps, and Backflip MX4, so I took it for a spin. I mean why not? They offered and the gas was free. :notsure:Surprisingly, it rode very smooth and nice, although the brakes were a bit mushy. @SCSPerformance @scs_vuth as soon as you drop those blurple stealth indigos I can order my tires and lift for my 2017! Sigh. :sadviolin:

Fair, but the most reflective thing you are likely to have behind you is a white garage door. Based on my 30 seconds of googling that has an LRV (light reflective value) of at most 60%, so you immediately losing around half of the light produced by the reverse bulbs. The light has to travel 3 times further than the tag lights, give or take, which is affected by the inverse square law so only 60% of 1/9th of the light produced by the reverse lights would be returning to the CMOS sensor. That and the thing you are wanting to see is the thing that is lit up the most, so even if the ISO settings drop it is in the right way at the right time, unlike when the tag lights are shining directly on the camera. Hell, you could probably hook up some KC Daylighters back there and still be fine. I still don't believe that the camera itself is affected by the headlights being on (other than by turning on the tag lights) though I would have to test this by blocking off my tag lights entirely and testing day, evening and night to see if there are any actual differences between headlights being off and headlights being on but tag lights being blacked out.

Was there a reason you went with these instead of a different brand? I’m trying to decide between these or Katskinz

Driving around Austin, TX the past couple of weeks and I can relate. Several times a day I had to wash my windshield and hope I wasn’t spraying a nasty yellow sludge on the cars next to me.

Got back to the Houston area today and it’s much the same. Man, wish I owned stock in whoever makes Benadryl…

Not sure about Katskinz but I have had Clazzio's in my truck for 4 years and 51,000 miles and they still look brand new. Love them and wouldn't trade them for any other covers.
