Wheel well liners?

Thats awesome! I love his work with sheet metal for sure, but it’s his laid back method of teaching that really inspires me. I can’t really see his success going anywhere but up from what I’ve watched.

 

What dimensions did you order?

 

I think it was 12x 52 or something like that. Honestly, after working on this shit for 4 days I might be over it. Today did not go as planned.

 

Can you elaborate on what went wrong? I'm trying to do the same thing soon

 

I’m not happy with how the plastic bends. It was a learning process for me for sure. It’s really hard to explain but once you bend some of it one way it’s hard to bend another portion of it another way. It’s really hard to explain.

Honesty, I knew this would be hard, but it’s more difficult and time consuming than I expected. At this point I think the best thing I can do would be to weld that plastic together. I want to do it, but it’s not going to happen as soon as I’d like.

Now I’m trying to figure out what to do with an exposed intake until I can make a permanent solution.

 

Sometimes taking a break from something is best.
When you come back to it, you won't have any frustration. Also, It's likely you'll realize you were overthinking a problem. There's almost always simpler solution!
As for the exposed intake, can you zap strap your oe liners in as a temporary fix?

 

A heat gun might be your friend when trying to get the plastic to conform the way you want.

 

Heat gun for sure. I did a bit of a viper cut mod to my front bumper and used a heat gun to reshape my liners to the new bumper shape. Worked perfectly!

 

Heat gun is a 100% must, and dont be shy with it.

Also this is what I did with the intake. Took like 20 minutes and has been great the past couple years.

I was also actually making some parts for a motorcycle the other day out of kydex, and was thinking how it may work great for wheel well liners, my abs has been great, but I did crack one while snow wheeling... im thinking you could probably do like 3/16 kydex and it would be pretty damn stout.

My homemade liners did their job.

 

I ended up going with the Fend-X. I have mixed feelings about it, but the finished product looks way better than the C4

 

Getting ready to make another set (this'll be the third set). Broke another one snow wheeling. The ABS becomes brittle in the cold. It always seems to be the front ones that break. Coincidentally, the front ones are a PITA. I still have more ABS so I'll use that but once I run out I'm gonna be looking at using a different material.

 

I broke one of my rears in the snow as well.

I recently made some stuff using "kydex", which was super easy to work with, I was thinking If I replace my wheel wells I am going to strongly look into kydex, forms perfectly and hardens up really nice.

 

Got the replacement made today. At this point I can do it pretty quick. Just wish they'd last. After the first set i learned to make them in 2 pieces so I don't have to replace the whole thing. Just the broken half.

 

Well, this set lasted 1 week...... stuffed the tire while offroafing and immediately heard it break. ABS just isn't cutting it.

 

I was just looking at the aluminum C4 liners, and by George, I can almost definitely make something similar. Time for ideation but looks like a trip to the metal supply spot is added to the agenda.

 

So for folks going the DIY route - are you adding the vents on the passenger side? Mine are shredded and I'd like to DIY as well.
