I am looking at regearing options and noted that ECGS has options for buying the entire 3rd member and clamshell with new bearings, shims, and gears for roughly the same price as a new Nitro gear set. Are these actually good? What brand gears are installed? I am always leery of anything where the price is too good.

ECGS is a pretty reputable place based on the chatter. Just have to ship those damn things…I went with gears and paid for install…but also have the clamshell.

ECGS is possibly the most reputable gearing shop on the east coast. They will treat you right and have a robust warranty, not many gear shops do. From my personal experience they were a pleasure to work with and I will be a customer for life. The pricing, knowledge and ability to work on so many diffs really makes them stand out. For my diffs I went with 5.29 gears, solid spacer, and ARB lockers front and rear. My total after core returns was right around $3,300.00. Let that sink in for a sec. Gears alone are right around $1,300 ish give or take and the ARBs are in the $900 range. The prices are incredibly good. A shop should be able to switch out diffs for you in $400 - $600 range ish depending on where you live. Still an amazing price for completely enhancing the the capabilities of the truck. I have full installs of the diffs on my YT channel in case you get bored as hell one day.

Thank you much. Hearing from an actual customer is good. The shops by me wanted $4000 installed for Yukons, so buying the pre-built clamshell and 3rd member looks to be the "easy" way to get this done vs trying to install gears myself - no way is anyone getting $4000 from me when $1800 will get it done. I planned to get the new bearings, solid spacers, and replace the as-is rear elocker & front open diff.

They sent me front and rear 4.88 gears with ABR Locker. I did it in my carport. I spent 2days doing them. Great price.
22,000 mi on them now, works great.. That was in May 2020

I bought one of their drop in 3rds for my 2004 4runner when the oem one crapped out. The one ECGS sent me made some unusual noises kinda like the one so many of the 3rd gen Tacoma make but a little louder. ECGS made it right and sent me a replacement that has worked well for the last 6 years or so.

I was kinda annoyed that I had to install the 3rd twice but in the end I'm happy. They stood by their product.

Running them in my truck. 4.88’s, spacers, bearings and a front ARB locker. Showed up in about a week from order date, took all of maybe 5 hours to install, been excellent since. I think after core return I was at right around $2600 for front and rear. Mine have Yukon gears in them.

Did mine a few weeks ago. 5.29 front and rear with no front locker. After core return it ultimately cost me $1800 and a few afternoons to get regeared.

How are you all liking these? I'm looking into this. I'm not a good mechanic so I'll have to find a shop, but man I need it done.

    All of them.
It's a super easy swap with basic tools. Hardest part by far was getting the cv shafts out. But I've had my ecgs 5.29s in for around 25k with zero complaints Screenshot_20220207-183141_Photos.jpg

So they are just plug and play? Do they still need broken in and everything?

500 mile break in is recommended. Goes by pretty quick
